how much RAM do you have???

1 gig is enough ... rest of my comp is already running behind my RAM
got a 9500 ATI... 128 RAM ..... i know i know ... poor bastah...

but i just can't keep paying to have this big a$$ high end comp.

my comp can handle bf2 fine ...... 1 gig .. ok ... my 1800xp .. is prolly next to be exchanged

I have 1gb but will be upgrading to 2. When monitoring the swap file and ram usage....BF2 takes too much :-D
Ram is a relatively cheap component of the system that can last for longer then most other parts. I bought my 1gb when people thought that was way too much.

Going to 2 should keep me for a while yet again. Anyone building their own system I'd suggest start with 2, makes it all the longer before you have to upgrade the ram.

Today I will go pick 2 1GB DDR 200 pin sticks to the post office, all to improve gameplay for this specific game, in other word a very expensive to play BF2 cause Im already looking into getting a larger monitor to adapt to my laptop. By the way never get an alienware, it suck big time!

5 speaker surround sound (nice for tracking aircraft and gunfire)
iiyama 17inch flat screen (wife wanted to use her monitor till it dies, so I'm waiting to get back to my 17" flat panel)
and a microsoft optical trackball (with browser and scroll buttons mapped to knife, pistol, and grenades)

I get those same stutters for about the first 60-120 seconds after starting a map, then nice and smoth depending on lag.

Graphics card is important yes but this game is a ram hog. u need 1.5+ for smooth play at max settings. adding just 512 to both systeams created a profound difference. and thats the x800 xl 256mb with that u can run all high - actually I put some settings on ultra high but i dont notice much difference other than lighting

It is not so much about processor speed. BF2 asks allot of a video card. Then if you intend to use that card at the highest setting you are going to need more ram or the computer is going to need to swap files with the HD. (bad)

Oh and a RAID 0 drive setup greatly improves those verify times. I am normally one of the first into a map. I don't have a fancy Athlon 64 processor or fast Pentium. Just a good video card and lots of ram.

IMHO -- ATI X800XL is roughly equivalent to the G-force 6800GT. But the GT has Shader model 3. The ATI cards are still at 2. I have only had ATI cards in the past (about 5) This G-Force rocks. Will never go back.

1024 ram .... 6600GT card. 2.3ghz 64bit AMD. 2mbps cable. I play the game at medium settings, I don't experience too many glitches 98% smooth, and I play with Firewall and Antivirus software enabled. Everyone I've spoken to about that says I must turn it off to be able to play at all.... Have I proved them wrong? ... oh, I have plenty of space on my HD.... and sub woofer that goes 'BOOM' 'BOOM' when the tanks roll in.

2 gigs of Corsair XMS, A64 3200+(s768), AGP 6800 GT OC, SATA RAID 7200 RPM WD drives for 320gb, Dell FP2005 monitor, running at 1680x1050 in BF2, with everything but lighting/shadows cranked to high, and 2x AA. At that resolution I never drop below 50 FPS according to FRAPS.

Prior to BF2, I had the same setup with just 1gb of RAM. Going to 2gb made my load times hugely faster, I'm almost always the first guy in the game when the map switches, or at least the first guy on my team. It also seemed to have smoothed out my frame rate.

And the biggest bonus of all when upgrading RAM...no more music for five minutes after I exit out of BF2.

I just upgrade from 1G to 2G and I confirm this makes a lot of difference...

I use to get in the map and already a few flags changed, now I'm the one doing it before other gets in the map.

I have a Dell Inspiron XPS gen1, 3.4GHz, now 2G of ram and Mobile Radeon 9800 256Mb.

I play @ 1600x1000 and medium setting.
