Dear bf2s.commies, DonFck here.
You might at least not remember me from threads like: "OMGWTF my Int0rrntz iz broked" and "ROFLMAO55!!one!".
Speaking of which, it's the subject I will address today; the use and misuse of the word "LOL" on here.
I'm writing this not because I would be irritated, but just because I felt like going Andy Rooney on you for a while. Hell, I might not even agree with myself in this post! I'll get started right away:
LOL - Laugh(ing) out loud.
It has become a classic term often misused. It's not unusual to stumble upon at least 10 posts containing misuse of the term. Exempli Gratia: "Hi lol". Did the poster actually laugh out loud? I doubt it.
"LOL" has become a filler in sentences that, when excessively used, help other forum members profile the (im)maturity of the poster. "LOL" is sometimes even use to replace a comma or period: E.g. "yea i had the same problem lol its the gpu overheating".
Small "LOLs" - The most common of "LOLs", yet also the most idiotic one at the same time. You might not notice it when surrounded by other text, but as single posts, the idiocy of the small "LOL" is clearly visible.
When to use "LOL"?
1) When actually laughing out loud.
2) To express to other posters that you might have laughed out loud, had you not been at work.
3) When actually laughing out loud.
What's "LOL" doing to us?

But what about on forums.bf2s.com? Has the term "LOL" been derailed like 75% of all threads?wikipedia wrote:
LOL (also spelled lol) is an abbreviation for "laugh out loud", "laughing out loud", or less commonly "lots of laughter", "lots of laughs" or "laugh online". LOL is a common element of Internet slang used, historically, on Usenet. It is similar to the acronyms "lmao" (laughing my ass/arse off) and "rofl" (rolling on the floor laughing), which are used to communicate a higher degree of amusement. LOL can be pronounced phonetically as "loll" or "lawl."

It's like an embarrassed little boy saying sorry for stealing candy. Now how can that look like someone is laughing out loud?lol

My next report could be called: "ROFLMAO - Really, did you?"Silvio Lacetti, professor of humanities at Stevens Institute of Technology wrote:
..reduced chances of employment for students who use such acronyms. Unfortunately for these students, their bosses will not be 'lol' when they read a report that lacks proper punctuation and grammar, has numerous misspellings, various made-up words, and silly acronyms.
