Well yes. And let's face it - US military casualties have been remarkably low. Whether that's a sign of shying away from the tough on-the-ground task or whether that's a sign of military prowess I don't know.unnamednewbie13 wrote:
At the same time, you have to give the US at least some kudos for not getting completely sucked down the "just a few more troops...that's right...a few more...ah, that hits the spot...more" trap that was Vietnam.CameronPoe wrote:
The fact of the matter is that an insufficient number of troops are and always have been stationed in Iraq for the carrying out of the task they are/were purported to be performing after the fall of Saddam. The number of troops required would have had to be enough to administer the kind of police state ATG talks of, the kind of police state that Saddam was adept at administering - the kind that silenced dissent. The fact of the matter is that it was always going to be unfeasible to send the requisite number of troops to carry out the 'task' given that this was a war of choice that a vocal voting minority (now majority) vehemently opposed. The US just proved that they couldn't do it in actual, military and political terms - exactly like what happened in Vietnam.
*shrugs* Withdrawal would make all of this so much simpler and more affordable. Rangel is just espousing a new form of idiocy that is no better than the current one we are indulging in....
I Appreciate living in the U.S. but can't fucking stand our politics. Why can't they stop with the bullshit talk? "Challenge"? We're gonna "challange" Iran! Like its a fucking game of chess between friendly nieghbors. What he means, of course, is to send in the U.S. armed forces losing thousands of more troops and killings several troops and citizens of the country in a bloody ongoing war which has no defined policy to win and ensure a peaceful end. Challenge, what a bunch of bullshit. I don't care for political parties for this very reason: Euphemistic Bullshit.
I support the draft. Not for this war, but for building our ranks with personel on reserve that will fight for our country. Lets face it, the mentality of Me Me Me Give Give Give and Take take take by todays youth is going to leave us open for such an attack, you better brush up on the language of choice(be it chineese, spanish, Or some gawd aweful ME language that sounds like fighting cats.
I remember how proud i was to sign my card and send it in, But then i Joined. I felt it my duty to serve the country i live in instead of sponging off of it the rest of my life and critisize it every chance i got, sort of like the youth of today. Yes i generalized, so what, i havent seen much proof, atleast here, that any of the kids here give a shit about defending this country let alone really give a crap about the ones who are.
And before you ask, Yah I honestly have hope my 2 sons will serve there country. They have the right mentality, Ive never pushed the idea, but my oldest(now 16) has asked about it already. Im 100% behind his decision should he join.
