Well, as far as I can tell this is a new one (couldn't find anything similar via search).
Seems to maybe be more of a windows problem than game but if you happen to have had the same problem you may be able to help.

Anyway...

I bought a new PC. Backed up 'My Documents/BF2" folder for my settings. Installed BF2/SF/1.4 (no bandwidth for 1.41 til next month).

Now, try to stay with me here. Opened game, changed video systems to reflect new system. Game played fine. Exited game, tried to load it again and BF2.exe runs, first splash screen shows but then nothing.

After much incremental trial and error I found I was able to manually edit the video settings in my backup folder, dump it to my documents and the game would run.

BUT, each and every time I want to run the game I have to copy over this edited backup to the "my Documents/BF2" folder of the new install.

Yes, I have tried reinstalling (a few times).

I know it seems pretty vague but it may ring a bell for someone. It isn't as much of a deal to me as trying to bloody snipe with this new widescreen lcd on non-native resolution. If only BF2 had the same resolution options as HL2.

Every post needs humour #428: Loaded up HL2 to check out new PC. Combine transport flies overhead and I try to "q+left click" the thing to spot it....No idea who I expected to be taking it down.
