Yeah, that's why we welcomed all those immigrants. Part of the "populate or perish" scheme.Flecco wrote:
Also, Australia lost a higher percentage of it's young men to WW1 and 2 than any other allied nation I believe. Kinda crappy considering how our economy was trying to establish itself during those years and had a depression to work around.
No. That's Australia alright...mcminty wrote:

i think every industrialised country will slowly become like america (which i think is a bad thing no offence) its just a matter of time we are simply the next on the list
So far you have the internet, which even your enemies have. Try again.dubbs wrote:
To respond to the people who responded to my post. Bubbalo stated that the US has never done anything for Australia, I was given a few things that we have. Yes you could have gotten the technology, probably via the UK, but it would have taken longer then it did.
No, you lost soldiers fighting on the same side during WWII. If you'd been helping us you would have arrived before Pearl Harbourdubbs wrote:
You all seem to forget that we also have lost soldiers in WWII helping you all out.
Which makes a difference how?dubbs wrote:
The comment that Roosevelt may have been true, but we also said that about Wake Island, and other small islands within the Pacific.
No, all it said was that it was vital to our security, which runs contrary to the most recent comprehensive review of defense strategy which advocated continental defense instead of forward defense (the policy which fits with wars like Iraq and Vietnam).dubbs wrote:
I also pointed you direction to the Australian government site as a source that we do provide you all with somethings that you may over look.

Moral support. Having said that, the only time the US has lost troops to defend forces which may have been a threat to Australia was WWII, and you only did that when it was convenient for you.dubbs wrote:

if it wasent for aussies an brits in ww2 yas woulda got cained massive... we have been fightin alongside yanks through pretty much every war since this country created an army it may not consist of much but we use what we can
The Aussies helped the Brits out in WWWI, WWWII. Props
Wrong. The US didn't interact heavily with Australia until about the time of the Battle of Coral Sea (of course, we didn't have an official foreign policy until just before WWII).DrunkFace wrote:

I believe he meant nuclear electricity generation. Also, IIRC, Germany was ahead of the US in terms of the science of the nuclear bomb, but lacked the resources. I could easily be wrong, though. Further, you guys quite probably had the first nuclear generator.dubbs wrote:

Computers: Be that as it may, there where working digital computers 7 years before ENIAC. computers is one of those things designed similtaneously in many places using different methods. Battery: Try Eygpt.
Concrete was not created by the Romans, they just made a better concrete then most societies during their time.
There is a debate on who created the telephone first. Some say Bell by the matter of a few hours.
Nuclear Power: Was being researched in Germany during WWII and they developed nuclear power before the Manhattan Project but it lacked the stability or power to make into atomic weapons. Also many of the scientists were Hungarian, Austrian and German refugees fleeing the NAZIs.
Battery: the first cells which I think your talking about where actually in Iraq, But the first Batteries as we know them today was made by Volta an Italian scientist.
Concrete: yes cement was invented along time before the romans used it but they did recreate it much stonger and called in concrete.
I swear, we still have freaking F-111's, the bloody Nazi Luftwaffe could take us on with good odds.Bubbalo wrote:

That's due to the Americans dropping the ball with the JSF (no offense to you guys, it's a very ambitious project) and not what I was talking about, but yes, it is sad..................

The actual batteries that I am speaking about is the ones that were found in Eygpt. They also give way to the theory that a type of battery was created to help build the pyramids. I was trying to find a source to back up my statement but I could not find one that was resonable. Most were speaking about Eygptians getting batteries from aliens. The only resonable source I could find was a small paragraph in Wikipedia
The Romans just added limestone (I think that is the correct material) to the concrete during their time to make it stronger, and not crumble as much.wikipedia wrote:
One of the more extreme claims of recent years is that the ancient "tet" or "djed" has been experimentally identified as an ancient battery.[citation needed] If true this technology would anticipate by thousands of years its rediscovery in the 19th century. The sarcophagus found in the great pyramid has been recently re-examined. According to the author Nigel Appleby ('Hall of the Gods') the holes drilled in the sides were considered to have been drilled at a speed and bore rate that cannot be reproduced today. Independent published corroboration by scientists and engineers is awaited for both of these claims.
Bubblo, I can not one certain thing that the US has given Australia directly, but you have to be honest and say that without the US, Australia would be different then what it is like currently.
Sure. We wouldn't be wasting money on an army that can't defend us.

NOOO we need the yanks for what they did to the Australian automotive industry, apart from that nothing much else, but c'mon at least thank them for the cars. the wonderfully designed cars that were the XY - XC falcon (1970 - 1979)
Yeah, THE FULLAY SICK FORD FALCON MAAAAAAATE!
hmmm that seems a bit unusual considering lebs drive old shitbox japanese cars (no not good ones, just old fucked up corollas and daihatsu's they found at a junk yard)
How would it be better? Do you think that Australia could have defeated Japan in WWII without help from the US? (You have to remember that the other Allied forces would not have been able to assist Australia that much since they were fighting Germany.) I know that you all did a very good job at defending yourself, but how much longer could you have be able to do that? Did Australia have the resources to completely defeat Japan on its own? I know that the US did not, it had some help, but a large part of the reason the Allies won WWII was because of the US. We helped out in the European Theatre, this helped free up other nations like the UK to assist in the Pacfic Theatre. We also provided a lot of factories that were not destoried due to the war. This allowed for additional supplies, and equipment. I know thaat it is hard to determine what would have happened, but the outcome would have been a lot different. In the worse case, Australia would be defeated by Japan. (The US would have probally been defeated by Japan and Germany because they would have created two front war, which the US could not have defended itself against.)Flecco wrote:

This is response to the person who asked why the US did not enter the war before Pearl Harbor, first because we were still trying to recover from the depression, and second we believed that the war was not any of our business. To head of the question of why the US did not attack Japan first, it is because of our agreement with the USSR. We agreed that we would force Germany to have a two front war, then do the same to Japan. The USSR agreed to this, but once Germany was defeated they backed out because the Japanese threat was not as great a the German one. This made the war end quicker then the US trying to defeat Japan without the additional help of the Allied Forces. It would also allow some of the European nations to assist in the Pacific Theatre.
