It's about time I upgraded my PC into the 21st Century!
Here's what I'm thinking of getting:

Intel Core 2 DUO LGA775 E6600 2.40GHz

Asus P5B Deluxe

2GB GeIL PC2-6400C4 DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

BFG GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB

Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming case

I'm planning on reusing my old IDE Hard drives,  DVD ROM,  and my Sound-blaster Platinum 5.1 surround.

I want to know if this looks like a decent gaming set-up?
Will I have any problems/slowdown  reusing the old Drives and sound-card?
And will the Graphics card (DX 10) still function okay with Windows Xp for now?

Any advice, comments or useful information greatly appreciated!

Get a beefy PSU aswell, all looks good though! Although i use Scan for my pc stuff, more choice than overclockers and cheaper, try them. www.scan.co.uk

READ THIS!!

That mobo only supports 2 IDE devices, unless you don't feel like having a CD/DVD drive you wont be able to reuse the HDDs.

Thats the problem with all new mobos. I would have gone up to AM2 already if it weren't for the ram and HDDs.

Get a big PSU, dont go cheap, its actually a very important component.

Otherwise, a solid chioce.

Thanks will check out that now!     I have a 500w PSU at the moment that I might be reusing if it's upto the job.

I do feel a bit strange about upgrading to a 2.4ghz processor when I currently have a P4 3.2ghz with HT.... even if the new one is Duo,  are they 64 bit?  is it powerful enough?

Yea, they are great. My Intel Core Duo @2.16Ghz in my laptop outruns my dad's desktop with a 3.4Ghz P4.

So, new HDDs then?

Think I'll just have to re-use my 250Gig primary drive for now..... I can stick my second drive in an external enclosure... I only use it to store all the films and crap that I download anyway.

Think I am going to take the plunge and go for this set-up,   but I'm gonna be extravagant and get the BFG GeForce 8800 GTX instead of the GTS!

I personally love EVGA, they like to factory OC most of their products. Of course, I can always do better.

Get the one with the water cooling! Those cards are Hot (not sexy, but high temperature according to CN117)

I'd strongly suggest AMD for your CPU, cheaper, cooler, and usually faster.

Be careful with the ASUS mobos and dual channel ram, sometimes it is limited to only two sticks, so you can't upgrade any further.

C2D is about the same OR better value
intel C2D SMOKES AMD out of game and keeps up or passes it in most cases EVEN IN GAME!!
