What you posted is basic stuff anyone with common sense should have figured out before \ beyond Lance Corpral. BUT the MAJORITY of players on BF2 appear to be DIM-WITTED, so you will probabaly help some ppl out and gameplay value for the rest of us overall. 


I doubt you single handedly increased the use of smoke gernades, etc in the BF2 community though. Not all of us out there are brainless, running around and just using the defaults

+1 for trying to helpout gameplay overall

Incrediable guide, have read it a few times but have just been too lazy to log myself in and post. Your right the assualt class is underrated and doesnt get as much attention as the "glorified sniper" . I think the f200 is slightly better then the g3, but im a fan of hand gernades so that my tip the scale but its bassiaclly a toss up. Also a good assualt specialist could sneak up on a sniper using flashes smoke combo.

As a fairly (damn) good assault player, it pains me to notice that he ommitted how any mention of grenades while he was talking about the G3.

Grenades >>>>> GL, in all but a few cases.

Nevertheless, if what he says about armor is true, I learned something, thus +1.

Can someone teach me how do people accomplish doing a barrel-roll to the side? Is there a combo to do it? Does it really work.  I guess it does after losing a number of one-on-one firefights to it.

excellent post after 100+ hrs with suport (gets boring) 40 or 50 hours with med (even more boring) time to just have fun and kill

I play almost any kit. Assault is the hardest but am I learning quickly how to use the "noob tube" ---m203 etc.
Its a fun kit to play and I will be utilizing it more often.

i must disagree with you in the f2000 which I find just lovely. The scope allows for long-distane shots and excellent placement and mag, well...that has enough bullets to wipe out 3 oppenents running towards ya. I am howwver having difficulty using the GL properly as I find it so difficult to land behind someone. It for instance blows up on first contact, eventhough it is just a branch of tree that got in the way. It also does sooo less splash damage than the nades which make me sometimes question its power. But it is very life fulfilling to blast a squad in pieces with just one shot from the GL

Assistant writer of the aforementioned guide here. Just like to point out that its 3 bullets more against Spec ops, 2 more against SMGs, and 2-3 more against assault rifles. It makes the difference between living and dying. And theres always so many medics around, you dont need to be a medic to heal yourself.
Not sure where you are getting your information, and yes I was exaggerating to make a point... but:

G3 - 1 extra
G36C - 2 extra
G36E - 1 extra
PKM - 1 extra
MP7 - 2 extra

As for the point about medics, that really depends on who you're playing with. No one can say they've always had a medic there to heal/revive them.

Anyways, if we're touting the extra 25 health as a reason to be Assault, what reason do you have to use Assault over Support, other than the ability to snipe at medium-long range?
well, I would say that it allows for greater precision in small-medium range too

For those of you , who think that nades >>> gl - you all just have no idea how to pwn with t3h t00be !

1 Big reason why GL > nades is that the nade on short range takes time to explode leaving a huge chance for enemy(s) to escape , while GL is instant death for them

2nd - n00b t00bing ( using GL like shotgun is CQB ) - still possible , but takes more skill because you should hit directly enemy's destination

3d - GL is silent , you dont scream 'Apollo bombula' or 'Grenade' when you shoot gl . That means , that first your enemy have no chance if he doesnt see you . Second may be easy finished with assault rifle .

4th - when you see 2 enemy's you can take them out easyly . 1st with gl , second with rifle . Your chances are better then medic ones .

and a lot more... not counting taking out jeeps with direct hits , frags from burning apcs\tanks and so on .

GL FTW!

And how I wish I had 47' on Karkand...best gun in BF2 , without disscussions . Ak101 is very close ...

Eh, I play Assault for the best gun in the game, G3. I've used the G36E quite a bit, and while It's a broken gun, I'd take the G3 over it any day of the year! (Ak-101 + Ak47 = 2nd best guns in the game, then G36E) Almost all my GL kills in my account come from whoring it like hand grenades, but better!

Some nice tips. I haven't been using the smoke tactically - I'll have to start doing that.
I spent ages playing Support because I wanted the firepower, then found the assault rocked. More firepower than the SMGs for AT (although I love the MEC AT SMG), and more accuracy than LMGs. It's an all round class.
If your team has too many snipers and ATs, a good bunch of Assault will clean them up. There is nothing worse than having a huge firefight break out and looking around to see all these fools as snipers. You're trying to hold out and they're pulling out their pistols or desperately trying to get head shots with a slow bolt action. Snipers have a role, but far too many people play it when it doesn't suit.
There is nothing worse than coming up against armour without AT, and I am quite happy to use AT if fighting tanks, or if the rest of the team nearby is balanced. Sure SpecOps has C4 to fling at armour, but I haven't played it enough, and I like my body armour.
I have also taken on board a good post on BF2s from a while ago. Run distraction on armour with the GL. If they are busy trying to get a bead on you they aren't looking for your AT buddy lining them up. If have sacrificied myself plenty of times to get a tank taken out by my buddies, then just respawned in the now tank free zone to help finish off the flag. Armour really gets the sh!ts when you start bouncing GLs off their skin - you get their attention even if you aren't going to knock them out.
Plus I have finished off a few APCs someone else softened up, or taken out hummers or jeeps that were standing still too long.
The reason some people slam Assault is because some people don't get what this game is about - working as a team.
