YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS
To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone :
888-382-1222 It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years.

You can also do it through this website:
https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx

You must call from the cell phone number you are wanting to have blocked . You cannot call from a different phone number.

Any company can buy phone numbers if they are willing to pay what the phone companies charge for them. If anyone is to blame its the phone companies.

Im taking advertising in college right now and we were told that the average cost for a marketing company to obtain a consumer's phone number from a phone company is less than 10 cents. Just goes to show you how worthless personel information is in today's society.

Yes post 17 is correct about cell phone numbers. But with Land lines they can sell your number even if its on the National Do NOT CALL LIST. Just the person buying the number cannot call you. Its only in the US i believe.
