Solution to 2142 Alt+Tab problem

I found a solution to the BF2142 Alt+Tabbing problem, where people just got the black screen when going back in.

Answer: Run it in windowed mode.

1. Create a new shortcut.
2. When it tells you to put in the location, copy+paste the below string (all of it).

"F:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 0

3. Name your new shortcut.
4. Put it in a convenient location.
5. Play.

Added benefits:

-You can run TS/Ventrilo on the side. You won't need TS Overlay or to memorize everyone's voices because you can see the flashing dots beside your game.
-You can do other stuff while loading.
-If your game happens to crash, running it in windowed mode will often give you a helpful error message (unless it's a CTD, in which case you won't get one either way).

Thanks. +1 for you, even if it is not actually a "solution" but rather a workaround.
Don't think I'll be using it though, I like playing fullscreen.

And best of all, if your running in a peice of shit res, with a higher native res, to me, it looks better! Oh, and you can browse the forums and rant at the same time! Yay for utillization of my Dual Core!

I have no problem just set your in game resolution the same as your desktop resolution and every time you alt-tab back and forth pops back up in less then 4 sec.

Im actually running 2142 now as 800x600, I like it, because I get the smoothness of having a 1280x1024 fullscreen, without the lag, plus I can concentrate on other things while Im waiting/dead/commanding!

someone suggested doing ctrl-shift-esc instead of alt-tab in a different thread. it works 90% of the time now for me...which is better then the 2% of the time alt-tabbing worked.

Tried it three times today with the same result as alt-tabbing: didn't work, in this case even 100% failure.

The thing that works best for me is if I first return to the BF2142 menu (esc) and then alt+tab out. I can then get back into the game without a problem. Perhaps this method will work for some of you as well...

Get a cheap-o monitor (buy, cheat, steal, whatever) and stick it next to your old one. It doesn't have to be pretty, it just has to work. Most any card capable of playing 2142 will also be capable of dual screen. Just move any windows you want to see whilst gaming to the other monitor, and you're golden. I used to think BF2, etc wasn't capable of this, because the game would always crash at startup when I had the second monitor in attached mode... But since I have re-installed Winders, it really does work, and well!

You will, however, have to change to the menu screen so that the game releases the mouse to the second monitor, when you want to use it. Not a big deal, I think, because it works sooooo much better than any other solution. Also works wonders with the Advanced Tactical Center, where window mode just wouldn't be practical unless you had a giganto-size, very high resolution monitor, which either don't exist or are cost prohibitive. Also, I had to change the background on my second monitor to black, so that it didn't distract me from the game.
