G'day,

I was banned from my favorite server, so my friend offered to give me his spare CD key. So I uninstalled BF2 and installed using that cd key, all worked fine, I could play servers (although, didn't try to play with him). Then he asks to swap CD keys (because the one he gave me was completly, clean, no bans or anything...and the one he was using had 2 warnings on a server) naturally, I accepted because it was his CD key, and he was giving it to me to use . So we both uninstalled and installed using the swapped keys.
Now when we try to player on a server together, the person trying to join while the other is in the server gets the message 'CD key is not valid' while the person ingame occasionally disconnects when the other trys to join.

What could be the problem here? I have tried a complete manual uninstall of BF2 (clean it from reg etc) to try get any traces of the CD key out, but that doesn't seem to make a difference (he hasn't tried a clean uninstall yet)

If anyone has any ideas please help . Thanks.

-Jack

(ps, sorry if the post is confusing )

A little update:

I just tried to reinstall with my original CD key...it worked, but I can access the server I was banned from...which means that BF2 is not following my old cd key, which was banned on that server.
I also tried to join the server my friend was in, and it says Invalid CD key.

1: If your banned from ONE server does NOT mean that you are banned from the whole bf2 thingy!
2: If both of you used the same key, PunkBuster wont allow it, so you have to get two copy's of the game so two can play on one server (all about money to EA).

1. Yes I know

2. We don't use the same key. I installed using his spare key, and then he wanted it...so he gave me his old one and i gave him his spare one. Obviously my BF2 is reading from the spare CD key, rather than the old one, for some reason, even though I installed BF2 again using his old one, and he installed using his spare one.

Well in the future just go to Battlefield 2/Support/ and run "Battlefield 2_code.exe" if you want to change your CD key.

You could always try throwing different ones in there till something works.

That doesn't work, I've tried. You have to edit your registry files, and there's a way to do it, but I don't have the website on hand right now.

I'll post the link to the website soon.

So the two of you are using different CD keys but still getting the 'invalid key' message when you play together? That's pretty strange. I can think of two possible reasons for this:

1. The two keys you are using both belong to your friend? Perhaps EA has a record of who purchased each CD key. When two keys belonging to the same person try to connect to the same server, EA may think that shouldn't be happening because it looks like one person connecting twice.

2. Where did you friend get a "spare" CD key?

2. The key is legit, he bought it from a store
