i got my air defense ribbon while in the other aa turet on wake island. The weird thing is I was COMMANDER, and couldnt get any kills in the turret. USMC completilly owned the round and not even a single enemy jet ever got anyway  near the hangar ship. So how the F**k could i get 11 kills ??whilst in the turret?????????????? ?

thanx for any replies and I suck in english. From Norway u see.

I think I got mine in exactly the same way.  I was a commander on Wake Island just sitting in the AA gun to pass the time away and using artillery strikes and supply drops, etc while in it and just shooting at whatever came my way with the AA gun.

But they aren't counted in your score, right?

So if i can get the ribbon like that im off to play some wake

Also, If you are chinese commander (on wake) and go into the mounted machine gun, then get 11 arty kills, do you get the ground defence ribbon?

Here's my question - if I'm sitting with C4 or a knife out, can I get my expert knife or expert exposive ordinance badges?  I know it works for vehicles and kits, but does it work for weapons too? haha

it does.  its how i got veteran on most of the kits i have. it works for everything except knife and pistol. and possibly transport, those you have to get yourself.

Nah that's what I meant - by having a kit item out such as C4, knife, pistol, if arty kills counted for that lol.  I can get them, I'm just way too lazy to attempt trying right now

Damn. I was spending a lot of time in a AA Vehicle at Kubra Dam to get my Air Defense Ribbon. OK, probably I had the better feeling, when I got it... ;-) Btw, I remeber getting my basic resupply badge. I got it while commanding at Zatar Wetlands and was also very suprised...

There's no way you could've gotten basic resupply badge as commander - thats 10 resupplies IAR not kills haha.  You're probably thinking support.

As for the AA ribbon, I definitely wasted a lot of time getting it legitimately.

Argh... You're right pal, I meant the basic support combat badge. For the resupply badge I was throwing these ammo bags on Operation Cleansweep and was shot so much out of the dark, that I was afraid getting the purple heart...my first BF2 days...btw, you only need 5 resupply points IAR for the basic badge ;-)

Best practise is to get your badges the legit way, the game intended.  Short cuts only serve as salad dressing and dont help you improve your skills as a player or over all knowledge of the game.  I find very little satisfaction in freebees and frills.  Air defense artillary is critical, to insure over all victory in a match.  Cmdrs need to stay clear of equipment that may be vital to your teams success.  Cmdrs siting in needed tactical assets get TK'd and rightfully so.   Last night for example I was on a UK server where the admin Sergeant major couldnt fight his way out of a paper bag.  He simple kicked anyone above the rank of mega nube, so he could farm the fodder in the AH gunner position.   I thought how sad, empty strips would seem like a badge of shame to me.

i got all my badges and ribbons the legit way except for ground defense and transport. i just refuse to spent 10 min in a vehicle in a round cause i will just die several times and its boring, same goes for the 5 min in the ground defense. most mg´s are not placed very useful and most tankers know where the TOW´s are so you are more dead than alive again.
its much more fun to get them the right way and i still need my knife and explosives, especially before net patch when we wont be able to throw C4 anymore will make it even harder.
anyway commander kills onlx count towards kits and vehicles.

@onebadengineer: imho the AA next to the UAV and SAT trailers on the carriers are almost never used and i like to hang around there as commander.

I got my veteran engineer combat badge as commander.  I was on a 64 player map that had only 16 people on it so I was out capturing flags and what not.  I wasn't intending to get my badge this way, but I usually am an engineer when I'm commander because no one bothers to help me defent the commander assets.  Needless to say I was surprised when I got the badge after an arty kill.  Still I prefer to get my combat badges on foot because it's much more satisfying to me.
