Ok. This is a bit different then just "Help me fly!" You see, I purchased a Joystick for Jet flying and I'm monkeying around in SP working on making my bombing more accurate and dogfighting the bots. That I'm ok with, my problem is Helicopters. I have a good joystick, and I also have a converter to use my PS2 controller. I've tried flying with various control setups with the stick, controller, and the keyboard and for some reason I can't get this to work well.

Now, my best success so far has been the PS2 controller for easier controlling of the pitch and rolling. My main question, which setup would you recommend? Focusing on using my Joystick for both Jets and Helis, working with my PS2 more, or the dreaded keyboard and mouse.  I don't seem to do well on any of them so I'm open to suggestion here.

To sum up, which do you think I should practice more with? My Joystick, PS2 Controller, or attempt to keyboard and mouse? Oh, and advice on control setup for any of those would be nice. Don't need "tips" on flight tricks, just learning to get the thing off the ground without spinning or slamming my nose into the ground shortly after lift off.

I fly both with joystick, planes and choppers are definately better, as you have more control over the craft.

i tried for a while with joystick but found the throttle control too imprecise for choppers. Then remapped the keyboard controls to switch the pitch and roll controls to the keyboard as well (forgetting the mouse) and voila! with a bit of practice it all came together.

I find that keyboard helps with small adjustments which are so often useful with NOE and gunnery.

Probably a matter of each-to-his-own though.

When using a joystick, you will have trouble in helicopters unless you have rudder pedals. Or course you could just use the keyboard...

For choppers, a mouse or joystick is best. I'm not sure about the PS2.

I use a keyboard and mouse too.  I’ve been using a track ball type mouse which works really well for me.  Get good pitch and roll by just using my thumb.
