PMs are the best way to debate with some one on a 1v1 level. I understand the idea of getting people to look at the viewpoints and voting for who makes the most valid points, and I think that is a good idea. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no faith in this forum (myself included) to vote according to factual information. I do have faith in most people voting along their so-called party-lines.
Yep. I've debated/chatted on a number of issues with Gunslinger behind the scenes before. It can be better but obviously less entertaining for the baying masses of the forum.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

That's the only way a thread like that will work...and I only see it being used on DST. Probably not a huge priority.Kmarion wrote:
What needs to happen is the ability to not allow others to comment until the thread is complete.
I'm sharing an idea, but I feel I'm in a trial. Sigh.
It's the fact that we've gone full circle... and come up with the same thing. Please forward your idea into Bf2s.com - Feature Requests and go from there. It'd be much more productive than asking people about it. We know have two, possibly three threads that will discuss the same thing. That's double/triple the work for mods, for what could have been accomplished in one thread.

I consider this should go here because it's only for D&ST. Let people vote. If they don't want this system cool. But what's the problem with this poll?Kung Jew wrote:

Nothing wrong with the poll. Interesting idea. But implementation is your biggest obstacle.
Focusing on that would've been my priority.
I should apologize at this point. I'm tired, I've been at work all day, and the fatigue of it, plus school, plus modding in-between patients, studying, and whatnot, has weighed me down. I might have been rather rash in being impatient in my sigh comment. I just see this as more work at this point. It isn't my position to tell you that this will/or will not happen. I merely comment on the perspective/opinion that I hold towards your idea. At this point, it may be biased by the fatigue. For that, I apologize.
GL on making the isolated debate with spectators idea happen.

Implementation is easy, we already have 1 on 1 exchanges using the quote function, the only difference is we don't currently ignore other posters.Kung Jew wrote:

i'd be in on this.. i love arguing.. i mean debating..
What happened to PM's?
NP, dude. Go have some rest, I've been working too. I know how you feel. And it's not my intention to give you more work. If there's a way to do it easily, ok, otherwise forget about it.Kung Jew wrote:

No, but I dispute why.IRONCHEF wrote:

It'll be interesting, of course it wouldn't be any different than we have now. Most debates happen between two people anyway, and the way to support what they say is by karma.
[my corny example of calling you out for a 1 on 1!]
Why do you want people to watch a one-to-one debate? Are you a debate voyeur? Aren't most of the debates usually between two or three people anyway? If the purpose isn't to show off your knowledge or stubborness, isn't the "vote" for who wins have a lot to do with the obligatory "Good post +1" that follows? Isn't the one-on-one debate already handled by quoting a previous poster and making a point...like I am now?
Isolating the debate is boring. Use the PM function, that's what it's for. If you want people to see what you are doing in a voyeur 1-on-1 debate...aren't you asking for them to participate? Oh, they can't...
Use the PM function.
Sure it can co-exist but I would prefer this debate handled in private...since I can't participate in it, then I don't care, because there is a small percentage of people here who actually make sense, research what they have to say, are respectful, and not a tard. So unless you're part of the select few, it's going to be a 1-on-1 cage match battle of the tards. And, that does not increase the value of the day to day discussions here.
We don't need the poll if that's the problem. The 1 on 1 system would be fun and constructive. You could clearly difference the viewpoints of two persons, while in the actual system you have to dig in a sea of flaming, trolling, bashing posts without sense. It's not my intention to receive karma or something because I debated 1 on 1, it's a different way.Pug wrote:

It'd be very fun........ and time consuming
Who's up first, CyrusTheVirus v. CameronPoe?
Pm?
I just think we already kind of have the stuff you're talking about.sergeriver wrote:

Example (hypothetical):
Poll:
1) US kicks ass
2) England kicks ass
3) CamPoe Go Fuck Yourself
Then in the OP message:
I believe US kicks ass because we have more water than England. Reasons - 1) Our rivers are longer (Missippi v. Thames), 2) We have lakes the size of England, 3) England drinks more beer per capital, so therefore there isn't enough water. If you wish to debate, I am willing to oblige.
Therefore, you have established your opinion...and you can choose to counter argue or ignore as usual.
Alternatively, I've posted a thread and PM'd someone to go check it out. Usually there's a response.
However, including the poll, as above establishes the debate is about the issue and not a popularity contest. Just my opinion though.
I think that the flaming & trolling has to do with maturity, and creates more work for those who support this site. I think that this idea has merit, but it ensures more work from those who are supporting this site in their spare time.
PS> Create a User debate off bracket...yep, I'm a hypocrit.
I personally think this is a pretty bad idea, no offense. Isn't this the purpose of PMs, E-mails, or IMs?

There are a few debates I would like to see. Namely Cpoe v. ATG on the subject of globalization.
