Ctd before game starts

Sorry but i couldnt find any relevent info when i searched. My mate has just installed bf2 and patched it with the 1.4 full patch. Every time the game goes to load up you get a black screen for a second then it crashes to the desktop. Tried uninstalling an reinstalling with no luck.
Any ideas?

i had that once when i uninstalled and didnt delete my profile and saved games, i had to go delete the battlefield 2 folder in my documents to get it working again. uninstall and make sure ur hdd is bf2 folder free b4 u reinstall

The only thing is that it is being installed on a new computer.

pc spec? newest vga driver? tried other games on it?
