I'm not sure how many of you are aware but there is a money comp for 2142 here being held by GameArena (winners receive cash prize + a trip to finals some place in Asia).  They have decided to allow the use of unlocks.  Am I the only one that finds this ruling absurd?

Please sign this petition, even if you're not Aussie.

1) Stop with the petitions.........   now
2) Unlike BF2, 2142 needs unlocks to function /end

In a pro tourney though you retard.  A tournament's outcome should not be decided by who has played the most and gathered the most unlocks.

Seriously WTF?
Having unlocks on will make most of the maps unbreachable by the attacking side.

Also I do not see how this is fair. Nearly all other nations are running No Unlocks. I would put money on the international tournament winners vsing each other with No Unlock settings. Having unlocks will put the australian comp winner's at a large disadvantage.

Please for the love of god do not call me a retard, I have been playing 2142 since the beta, I know the game far better than you end of.

For 2142 to function properly it requires unlocks, basic things such as defribs have to be unlocked, if you allow players these you must allow other players to have unlocks to keep the balance. So the best way to keep it from becoming a fest of whining and whoring of certain kits that function better with no unlocks they allowed players to use all unlocks, good move I reckon.

Another 2 things, firstly you can unlock all the useful kit for one class in under a days play so there's that one solved. Secondly I'm sure they have thought of this and players will use pre-made accounts which offer all unlocks to all players.

Did 1942 have anything of the sort?  No.  Did it "function properly"?  Yes.  The omission of defibs forces smarter play and more teamwork.  Smart play + teamwork + skill should take precedence over who can press 5 and left mouse button the fastest.

I apologize for calling you a retard but please take note of quote from Jack Nader (over at GameArena's forums) - Most other countries' tournaments are not allowing the use of unlocks and I'm certain the Asian finals will not allow them either.

Is 1942 the same as 2142?

Nope, they are different games and as such require different treatment.

As for Jack Nader (who?) I couldn't give a crap who he is or where he is from or how pro he is his opinion means squat.

Further more you say that having unlocks will mean that the attacking side will lack the ability to progress, again you are mistaken. If you are referring to titans that a decent team of coordinated people can surmount any defence, however key to this is the use of unlocks (defibs/AR rockets/nades). All it would come down to is having 2/3 support soldiers firing away at a corridor, without unlocks attacking a console would become a institution of slaughter and people would give up and go cap silos.

For conquest unlocks present even more equality, again the clever use of AR rockets/smoke nades/mines/ nades can ensure that your squad can move effectively, where as other unlocks can allow the enemy to seal off areas unless the opposing unlocks are in use by you or a member of your team. Essentially unlocks allow this game to be more than just rock-paper-scissors, it becomes rock-paper-scissors-water-rock crusher-rust-extreme heat-etc-etc and as such becomes far more than just

It becomes a tactical battle to know what your enemy is using and having a squad outfitted to counter your enemy.

Smart players will appreciate unlocks, the people that believe that their u|oR 1337 reactions will save them each time will dislike having them as they force you to think.

This is very true.  Did anyone complain when they couldn't revive/be revived in the demo?  Not as far as I know.  Just because they're there doesn't make them crucial or, as you put it, necessary for 2142 to function properly.

I can see where you're coming from but still, to allow the use of unlocks in OUR local tournament (conquest btw), the one that gives on of OUR teams a trip to Asia to compete in the finals against the other teams from other countries who competed without them is a little off, don't you think?

I'm not entirely sure if you think I'm having a go at unlocks in general or, as intended, unlocks IN THE TOURNAMENT.  I do like the unlocks when playing in pubs.

This is true. Unfortunately 2142 is totally competition unfriendly. Thats why there'll hopefully a clan mode where all abilities (grenades, stamina, refresh, pistol clip, extra nade), some passive unlocks (advanced medical & ammo hub, repair 2.0) and some level 1 unlocks (APM Mine, RDX, Defibrilator, EMP Mine, EMP Grenade) are given to all to make the game more balanced and at the same time faster paced - but the most importing thing: making it interesting for clanmatches.

You were making a bit of sense until you bumped, now my opinion has gone back to it's original form,in favour of unlocks.

I myself am in a clan, and 2142 without unlocks is like Pepsi without sugar, boring.

Not that Pepsi is better than Coke.
