Intel pentium 4ht 3.4ghz
512mb ram
ac97 sound card
ati radeon 9550 256mb
17 inch acer monitor
logitech mx610 mouse
logitech force feedback 3D Joystick
300 gb sata hd
Sorry dude but at this point and what you have... Start again fresh, you have a 478 CPU with <1G of memory and an AGP card...

Sell the computer and start fresh, keep the monitor, mouse, joystick, and hd.

I'm in the same boat.

If your really wanting to keep the system the only thing I can suggest is a x850 AGP and 2G of ram DDR. But you will be paying alot for yesterdays tech.

lol, I wouldn't say crap... but

We both have the same problem, if your going to buy memory you really need 2G now a days.
There is problem one, you'll probably need DDR2 not DDR for your next machine.

Video cards are really pissing me off too.

The "best" reasonable card to get in AGP is a 7600GS or x850 they both run in the 150-200 range.

Not bad at all, but considering you can spend 200 and get a 7900GT which totally smashes both of those cards? Well your kind of an idiot spending 150-200 in AGP... unless you have some kind of kick ass AGP system already. Also considering the 8-series n-vidia is coming out those 79XX's are going to come down in price.

What truly PO's me is we never maxed out the AGP 8x anyways. There is truly no reason why the graphics people couldn't make a 7900GS or X1900 in AGP format.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong... but here are some facts!!!

An X850XT AGP generally out performs or matches the performance of the PCI-E.

AGP 8X basically offers the bandwidth of PCI-E 8.5x a little better than half a PCI-e 16x.

So what can PCI-E cards do with 8x PCI-E? Well how about quad GPU's with a two dual GPU cards in SLI mode. This can be done over a 8x 8x configuration.

Now are the graphic manufactures telling us that PCI-E is better or just cheaper for them.

[/rant]

Anyways if I could I'd buy a 7900GT for 200 bucks in AGP like you can in PCI-E.... hell, tommorrow, I'd buy two.

for average settings I would say:
CPU: AMD64 3200+ or higher
GPU AGP: 1x Nvidia 6800GT 256MB, 6600GT 256MB, FX5950ULTRA, ATI X800, X850XT
GPU PCI-E: 1x Nvidia 7600GT 256MB, 6600GT 256 MB
RAM: 1024 MB or higher
resolution: 1024 x 768 (17" CT)
AA: 4x
AF: off
BF2 graphics options: everthing on high, expect light on medium, shadows on medium
---------------

I completely disagree with some of your video card selections. A FX 5950 is no wheres near good enough to max out BF2. Your looking at medium-low 1024x768 with  FX5950. Possibly even low on 64 man servers. (effects and geometry being an exception). I'd love to see anyone run a FX5950 w/ all medium settings at anything higher than 40FPS on a 32 man server..because it wont be done.

btw, a 7600GT can run BF2 on ultra high smoothly. seen it done in person.

Secondly nobody should be running BF2 with high terrain or high textures with 1GB RAM. medium for both is fine for 1GB, but even then you'll see extreme swap file usage especially on 64 man servers, heck even 32 man will you see increased swap file usage after extended play time.

4x AA...what a joke. A FX5950 nearly maxed out 4x AA..............im actually laughing right now.

I think maybe you should have done more research before writing this guide. It may be useful to a brainless 14 yr old, but to anybody with any experience in computers would laugh at this guide.

Well, pretty nice I made you laugh. Your rant made me laugh. Your unablilty to use the quote function also.

Anyways, I dont know you, where should I from, you´ve just registered here. Man, I own four systems and looking to your sig, even my weakest systems overwhelms yours any ways. Your system is average and will fit the above mentioned average settings.

You compare a crappy X800GTO with a FX5950ULTRA?! Yeah, you can compare those cards for sure. The FX5950ULTRA was released two years before the X800GTO and is still a match for it. Shader 2.0, Direct X8.0 features (ok the x800 has 9.0) but it´s not faster or better than the FX5950.

When I bought BF2 I´ve runned it on a AMD64 3200+ with 1024MB and a FX5950ULTRA in the above mentioned settings with 1024 x 768 and AA4x.

Further, above mentioned settings are average settings, nowhere is stated that those are for high settings.

And your sentence about nobody running BF2 with high terrain and high textures with 1GB, bwahahahahaha, fail man fail. Where is the problem for a 7900GTX to run those settings with only 1GB? Nowhere.

A 7600GT can run BF2 on ultra high? Sure, with a core 2 duo maybe and compared to a X1900 or 7900GTX the diffrences are worlds. And ultra high? Do you know how to set those settings. Im not talking about the in game options. Ultra high is only possible with specific driver settings, but I think you´ll know better.

You should better done more research before flaming here.

I'm gonna have to agree with sl4y3r, becuase my 5950 FX runs BF2 very well.

3.4 Pentium 4
2GB PC3200
5950FX 256MB

Keep in mind, this is a (old) PS rig, not a gaming one.

I'm running at 1280x1024 and everything on high except shadows and lighting, which are both medium. AA is at 2x and AF is off. My FPS is usually above 50. Sometimes it bogs down, such as when there's a lot of smoke and explosions, but it is rarely hindering to me.

actually not. I have five diffrent rigs (average and !337-h4x-uber) and use diffrent settings. I was just sick of 1.000 new topics about BF2 settings each day.

What do you suppose a comp with these specs will run on?:

Core 2 Duo E6600
Geforce 7600GT
DDR2 2GB Dual Channel 800mhz RAM
480w PSU

What do you think this comp could run on?

C2D E6600
7950GT 512mb
2gig DDR RAM

What would the load times be like?

Gonna give this system a run soon:

Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe
AMD Athlon 64 4600+ AM2
Gecube Radeon X1950XTX 512MB
2G DDR2 PC5400/667 RAM

It should go ok. The main problem with my existing system (AMD Athlon XP 2500+, 1G DDR RAM, Radeon 9600) is the long load times. I start the game after everybody is already on their way to their first cap.

Right now i'm running:

AMD Athlon x64 3700+ ~2.2
Asus A8AE-LE
1024MB DDR RAM
PCI-E x16
ATI Radeon Xpress 200 Series Integrated Chipset.

__________________________________________

Right now i can get BF2 only on low, with the exception of Terrain, textures and effects (medium only)

at 1152x864 with about 30fps (crappy)

But i was wondering what would an nVidia 7600GT 256MB OC GPU do in terms of quality and clarity because i'm looking in to buying one. And would my system even compatible with this card? (BFG Tech)

To run Battlefield 2 @ a playable frame rate and maintain the playable frame rate I recommend:

ATI x800XL or Nvidia 6800GT or higher.
AMD 64 3500+ or Intel P4 3GHz or higher.
2GB RAM (PC3200 or higher speeds)

Mobo: Gigabyte 945p-S3
GPU: nVidia 7600GT
PSU: Thermaltake 420w
OPTICAL: DVD-RW drive

Hey computer_guy, your setup is much like mine

Case: P180B
CPU: Intel C2D E6400 (2.13Ghz)
RAM: 2x1024mb Kingston 667Mhz KIT
MOBO: GA-965P-S3
GPU: Leadtek 7900GS Extreme
PSU: Antec Neo Highly Efficient 2.2 500W
Optical: Pioneer DVR-111
HD: Seagate SATAII 320GB

System Cost: AU$2150

All on high @ 1280x1024.

Load times are awesome, blows away the old Quad-Core Xeon's (2.66Ghz 4xCPU w/ 2GB DDR400 Ram).
I can join a server, leave, then join again and on rejoining it takes 10 seconds to load (Map - Jalalabad)

Low-Medium for a descent FPS, its one thing getting all high, quite another to run it smoothly, with all the crap that goes on in this game.

Got all my parts bar GPU and PSU now so here is my new rig:

Case: Silverstone TJ09B-W
CPU: Intel C2D E6600 @ oc'd to 3.3Ghz
RAM: 4GB CorsairTwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800)
Mobo: EVGA NF680i SLI, S775, PCI-E(x16)
GPU: G80 OR R600 still cant choose
PSU: 850W Coolermaster (is that to much you think?) ___________________________
OPTICAL: 18x DVD-RW drive X2
HD: 150GB 10k Raptor
Monitor: 22" Viewsonic VX2235wm

Need advice on the PSU, I have the lot bar that and the GPU which I wont be getting till march, and still need help with, I have an old 7600GT borrowed from a mate inside that rig and is getting its first test run tommorow yay   My luck it breaks down 8-)

Bell, if you have the extra funds then why not go for that PSU.

Just one quick question, why overclock the C2D?
