Um... the M95 will kill anyone with one shot if they are missing 5 bars of health, its pretty much a one shot kill, if they are running you can shoot them in the foot and they die, its a good gun, and looks like in the new patch they are making it more acurate. and on MEC, PLA teams you have that peice of crap multi-shot thing.

The M95 is my friend. I defend it whenever I can.
When I first unlocked it, I was a bit disapointed. I found that it was as accurate as a potato gun.
Truthfully, it was just my skill with it.
The more I snipe, the better I become, and the more I like the M95.
If you are plannig to 'just have a bit of a go as a Sniper, maybe climb a ladder and see what you can see," you may not want the M95. The M24 or those crappy semi-autos will do you fine.
If you are serious about Sniping, willing to trek long distances to find that perfect spot, remain unseen, increase your accuracy to around 50%, (my eventual mid-term goal with the rife. I'm at 41%) and do some serious phsycological and physical damage to your opponent, the M95 will be your friend too.

Being a good Sniper is the hardest thing to do in the game. This is why people shy away from being Snipers, and thus have a negative viewpoint about the M95. Their skill lacks, and yes, the M95 is only good for skillful one-shot infantry kills where you have to aim, adjust for bullet drop and target movement and fire. It is not a good gun for close combat, or mid combat, (unless you are unseen,) which is what a lot of people, (myself included,) love playing Battlefield 2 for.

If you are going to snipe and have fun with the M24, you can forget about getting those really long hand-of-god type shots that kill enemies from a mile away, because the power of the rifle is not enough, and bullet drop effects the accuracy too much. The M95, as a much more powerful rifle, (in the projectile department, not nessisarily the damage department,) will allow you to get more of these kills. That is the main, less obvious difference between the two rifles, (the more obvious reason being the ability to shoot through armoured glass,) and may not sound like to much to get excited about, but the bullet drop that effects the M24 is quite substantial.
In mid-range Sniping, you will have to adjust a M24 for bullet drop. With the M95, it is not an issue, and you can line up your crosshairs to the target's head and score a nice headshot.

The M95 does not do any more damage than the M24, which is why many people believe there is no reason to use the M95 rifle, but in Sniping, your aim is to score a headshot anyway, so damage dosn't become an issue really.
Anyway, looking towards the proposed new patch, the M95 will have some improvements added to it as well. it will be made more accurate, and the crosshairs, which have been an issue, will be made thinner.

I endorse the M95, but keeping these issues in mind, you should be able to decide what would be best for how you play and enjoy the game.

Question: What is your other choice?

The M95 always feels like a really clumsy weapon when I use it. The M24 seems to be overall an easier weapon to use, and does the same amount of damage to light infantry. M95 can pop people out of helos, though.

Guess it's preference, if you're an avid sniper, it's worth the unlock.

The M95 allows you to have some fun with helo pilots

For example:
Yesterday, i was playing USMC on wake and we only had the airfield left to capture. The enemy atk chopper spawns and a guy gets in. Bang! 1 kill to me. Another guy gets in. Bang! 2 kills to me. I ended up with 4 kills from 4 shots before my ammo ran out. By the time I had reloaded the helicopter had taken off.

Seriously, the M95 is a good upgrade from the SVD and chinese sniper rifle.

M95 is my weapon of choice for sniping. All this "giving away your position" stuff, it's pretty much crap. I've never had anyone locate me based on sound, and even if they think they found me 9/10 times there's a bullet already on the way to their head.

The armor piercing, this is the real fun of the M95. If you can see the driver you can shoot him. Heli glass, jet glass, vehicle glass. It's all good. Chopper strafing your base raping everyone? M95 his ass out of the seat and watch his co-pilot crash. Blackhawk strafing? Take the pilot out. Loaded HUMVEE doing a classic straight line to your base? Pop the driver. You'll probably have reloaded by the time someone switches to the driver's seat and bam, another kill.

From what I've read the M95 also completely ignores any armor that certain classes have so you will always hit for full damage unlike the other sniper rifles.

I am getting to like the M95.  At first I hated it, compared to the M24.  The BIG benefit with the M95 is the body armor penetration.  Assault, AT...doesn't matter.  It is almost a guaranteed kill assist if you touch a guy with it.  Beware though, popping chopper pilots is hard, unless they are stationary.

Also, I have tracked down M95 snipers by sound.  If a person wears decent headphones, they can track the M95 very easily if the sniper fires more than a couple times a minute, without moving a significant distance.  I have killed snipers this way.

At mid-long range (almost all newer and a majority of experienced snipers play here), the M24 is more accurate.  In fact its minimum deviation is 1/2 that of the M95.  This can be compensated for by a reasonably skilled sniper (might take a few tries though).

Integrity first, service before self, excellence in all we do.

Which is why more experienced players are smart enough to lay claymores.

The M95 is a great unlock ONLY because it allows MEC + Reds to use something with the same damage profile as the M24.

When taking a shot at say... 300m, you'll wish you had the m24 for it's marginal accuracy improvements (irrelevant if the shot has settled) but more importantly for it's smaller crosshair.

If you're on the other team, you'll def want to keep the m95. Smaller maps, the M95 is gold. It may not be able to place easy headshots, but I've always found that the times you most need Helo penetration is when you don't have it. I frequently am able to drive off cobras after only a few shots, because they have no idea where the shot is coming from and it's not stopping.

As long as you take your time with the shot, the M95 will serve you well, but if you happen to be in a map with no helo's and as USMC, stick with the M24
