2142 unrealistic ranks

So i was just looking at the leaderboard an noticed that the top ranks are already up to Colonel Silver rank, which is pretty high considering the limited amount of time the game has been retail. This only leaves 11 ranks for them to get, which only requires them to double their current scores, which in terms of time you can only assume will take them about this time or a little more again.

Does this seem kind of limited, from my experience of bf2 the progression from basic ranks to officer and even general ranks is quite an epic journey... Just seems to me that 2142 may end up with a whole lot of generals pretty quick.

Any thoughts

We don't even know what the requirements are for the final ranks. For all we know it could be all expert badges. Or all medals. Or all awards.

Or maybe more ranks will be added.

Or maybe I don't care.

It does seem a lot quicker/limited than BF2, but i think they did it so everyone - including casual players - had a chance to get all the ranks and unlocks they want. Only the serious/hardcore gamers would push on to the higher ranks that quickly. For the average player it would certainly take longer than a week.

And when you think about it, doubling a score can be preety hard, but then, titan is an absolute points fest and these guys did get there quickly, so i dont know. I guess we will have to wait a couple of weeks just to see how it pans out.

Why would you care about someone else's stats? What does it matter that getting the rank in 2142 is easier than bf2? Just play the game and worry about your own stats.

I agree with you Uberge.

I loved the rank system in BF2. You could still make it to officer ranks as a casual player, but it still left higher ranks for the more hardcore.

2142's rank system has been cheapened to allow the casual players access to higher ranks faster. Leaving nothing for the hardcore players in terms of rank.

BF2 gave all the unlocks a bit faster so everyone could get them all.
2142 doenst do that and corrects that by makes all the (known) ranks lower.

Can't say I mind the idea of limiting the unlocks just a little - if it is going to make you focus on specialising the role on the battlefield a bit, that can't be too bad.

Not to criticize EA too much - but if I was commercially releasing games, I would want there to be a natural 'finishing' level so people are encouraged to buy the next thing. $100 for BF2 is great, but most of that revenue came in 9 months ago when people bought it.

So when BF3042 comes out end of 2007, everyone is sick of being > colonel.

I do agree with Iron_Sentinel though, but i feel that theres not much they can do about it, there are lots of ranks grouped together over a 57,700 point spread to allow for multiple unlocks.

And i do I agree that there will be plenty of high ranking officers walking the battlefield over the next 2-4months i don't really want to see anymore ranks added. there already pretty much two of everything and im not really liking it.

hes not worrying about there stats. He's saying that the ranks may be easier to get and the game could lose appeal quicker then what Bf2 did. I think.

okay here is the thing, 2142 may appear to be easier to gain ranks but that is because it has nearly triple the number of ranks to that of in bf2. not to mention, what EA is trying to do is give its customers/consumers the ability to get unlocks as fast yet at a reasonable rate. And if you look properly, the people within the top 500 spent a ridiculous ammount of time playing this game.. i will estimate over 100 hours by now. Believe me.

on the other note, yes i do agree it is a little unrealistic but hey, its only a game , ranks don't matter, its SKILLS

//edit: nothing beats a low rank pawning with some ridiculous rank, puts them into a disgrace situation

Ahh the site that says I'm 62-2 making a 31:1 KDR with the Zeller-H... I think it may be somewhat broke, as I a) have a lot more kills than that and b) I've died more than twice. Nothing on that site is correct.

You get about half the Points in 2142 as you did with BF2, So, 2142's Top Rank, In BF2 Points, Would be About 100,000 - 120,000 Its not that Much of a Difference, Either Way, I Don't Care.

50,000 points to get unlocks and about 3-400 hours gameplay to get them on average are you sick in the head or what thats not fast is it ?? And why should people have to earn extra stamina,sprint and nades that should be given at start imho but that just me .But bf2142 is faster imho to get unlocks i think you need to have a look at yourself m8 if you think bf2 is quick .

are you using firefox for your browser, i read in there forum pages that the site worked with firefox and to tell you the truth my BFHQ and 2142 stats page are the SAME! and when you say you have died more than twice i think that the stats have that as you have died twice from the zellar but killed 62 people with it.

its not when holding that weapon like in bf2.

i found bf2 to be much slower... but 2142 does come with more unlocks, hence i think the quicker ranking up fits in a little.

Nope, I stopped using FF after doing some testing against other browsers and it fails miserably these days. But thats way off topic.

I just tried it with FF, stats are the same, and totally wrong. It even says I've died 2 times with the Ganz HMG, I dont have the Ganz and I have never picked it up, 100% garunteed so there's no will on earth that can make that stat correct.

I was talking about the ranks, not about the time needed to get them.

Deaths on your weapon stats are now added when you are killed by that weapon.

If i died to someone using a zeller 10 times, I would have 10 deaths on my zeller stats...even if I wasn't using the zeller.

Basically this makes weapons stats pointless.

Actually... To get all the way in BF2142 is slower and requires MORE points then BF2. In BF2, the last level where you could get an unlock was 50000 points, in BF2142 the last rank you could get an unlock is somewhere around 57000. So there is more ranks in BF2142, but less "fluff" ranks as I like to call them, where you dont get any unlocks.

it is correct. means you have died by that gun twice. Its a different ratio system. how many kills with a gun to how many times you been killed by the gun

Well I got the game on the 18th and am able to play on weekends, and 2 weekdays, and I am a Sgt. Major Silver with about 5,500 points (give or take 200). So it does seem quick.
