Albert this is a CUBA thread. We can all get to England, but can't all get to Cuba could you please not try to highjack threads.

Oh and hopefully we'll be able to get to Cuba one day, but from reading what CP wrote it doesn't sound like it.

lol, L85A1's. They'd look better with Lee-enfield bolt action rifles or something. The L85 would suit them if they didn't have that god awful hat.

You must've looked like a right twat taking a picture of a knife surrender bin.
Uh huh, whatever.  Knife surrender bin= interesting.  Take it easy.
I thought the knife surrender bin was pretty col actually. I didn't realise that they had them. I bet they don't have to empty them often though...
I didn't realise we had them and I live in London.

hey cameron, does cuba still have its social mentality stuck in 1959?  thats the general idea here in the US.  I noticed a lot of old, old cars which is kinda confirming it for me.

It's social mentality is quite modern. Same type of music for young people, discos, same recreational activities. The reason for all the old cars may surprise you: when the US isolated Cuba in the early 60s, the cars they had then are the cars they use today. It is testament to their resourcefulness that they can maintain 1000s of functioning vehicles that are nearly 60 years old, some of which are in immaculate condition, when things like a nut or bolt may be very difficult to procure. The whole mentality is not to waste a single item that could potentially be of use. Everything is second hand, reconditioned, tinkered with. Their necessity to reuse and recycle has strangely made many aspects of their society exceptionally efficient (strange in that communism is inherently inefficient). We might learn some lessons from their battle against wastefulness.

PS Tomorrow I'm gonna post a series of photos of some classic cars. They really do set Cuba apart as a destination and add to the whole Godfather II atmos.

Next Set: Havana Transport!

As mentioned in the previous post Cuba is stuck in a 50s car timewarp. There were a lot of Soviet era Ladas and some modern cars but mostly it's 50s Dodges, Chevrolets and Cadillacs varying in condition from barely held together to immaculate. In Cuba it is a general rule that if there is an empty seat in your car and there is someone at the side of the road you MUST pick them up and give them a lift (not a rule for tourists. nor are they allowed to give a lift to a tourist). As such you will see straggling lines of people with their thumbs out and traffic police here and there helping people to secure a lift to wherever they're going. Car pooling epitmoses their ethos of Communism and working together (and more importantly saving on fuel costs, public transport, etc.). It really adds to the sense of everybody being in one gigantic struggle together.

Other forms of transport would shock you - it's like going back in time - a hundred people packed onto the trailer part of truck, horses and carts, bicycle taxis... it's very different and adds a lot of character to the place....

Sweet Dodge...

And it doesn't get much better than feeling the sea breeze along El Malecón in a taxi like this!!

Another cool little travel option are the three-wheeler coco-taxis, weaving in and out of the mayhem that is Havana traffic...

OMG, I was just excited to share some photos of my own, and I'm not trying to hijack the thread and I already stated that, and I didn't feel like starting a whole thread for England.  Could please try to be more polite in the future... ?

Just pointing out, that this wasn't a "post your tourist pictures here" thread and that it was a thread about Cuba with some of the History and culture of it..

I posted the one comment, and then PM'd you. Not flaming you and IMPO the pics of england still shouldn't be in the Cuba post.
