Lol. And wait for you to understand sarcasm, i could be there a long time.

I'm surprised how many people have never seen pictures from Iran before, they're not exactly new buildings are they. As CameronPoe said, some people need to go back to school.
However, you cant judge a book by its cover, It's the social issues and general way of life that are cause for concern and I think it would be in everyones interest if the west and the middle east were kept well apart.

It's called stereotyping sam, when we see some people celebrating the death of our people, like whats his face was saying he does, we tend to brand that entire group of people as savage assholes that want us dead.  In which case I say fuck em.

It may be the wrong thing to do but let's be realistic, we're not all here to love one another.

looks like any other country in the middle east.  at least in the cities.  Baghdad used to look like that too and a lot of it still does.  did you good folks think that they live in caves and spend the whole day worshipping the koran?  there is a pretty big drug and crime scene in Iran as well.  very modern nation.  in the cities though.  Im pretty sure their small towns still like like shit.

Introduction of Turkish baths to Europe
Turkish baths were introduced to the British Isles by David Urquhart, diplomat and sometime Member of Parliament for Stafford, who for political and personal reasons wished to popularise Turkish culture. In 1850 he had written The Pillars of Hercules, a book about his travels in Spain and Morocco in 1848, in which he described the system of dry hot-air baths which had been in use there, and in the Ottoman Empire, very little changed from those which had been so popular in Roman times.

In 1856, Richard Barter, having read Urquhart's book and worked on the construction of a bath with him, opened the first modern Turkish bath in the United Kingdom at St Ann's Hydropathic Establishment near Blarney, County Cork, Ireland. The following year, the first Turkish bath to be built in England since Roman times was opened in Manchester, and the idea spread rapidly through the north of England. It reached London in July 1860 when Roger Evans, a member of one of Urquhart's Foreign Affairs Committees, opened a Turkish bath at 5 Bell Street, near Marble Arch.

During the following 150 years, well over 600 baths opened in Britain, while similar Turkish baths opened in cities in other parts of the then British Empire. Dr. John Le Gay Brereton, who had given medical advice to bathers in a Foreign Affairs Committee-owned Turkish bath in Bradford, travelled to Sydney, Australia, and opened a Turkish bath there in Spring Street in 1859, even before the bath had reached London. Canada had one by 1869, and the first one in New Zealand was opened in 1874. Urquhart's influence was felt even outside the Empire when, in 1863, Dr. Charles Shepard opened the first Turkish bath in the United States at 63 Columbia Street, Brooklyn Heights, New York.

Today there are just over twenty Turkish baths remaining open in the British Isles, although hot-air baths still thrive in the form of Russian steam baths and the Finnish sauna.

Don't let the pictures fool you. Iran is one of worst examples of human rights on earth:

* significant restriction of the right of citizens to change their government
* summary executions, including of minors
* disappearances
* child labor
* torture and severe punishments such as amputations and flogging
* violence by vigilante groups with ties to the government
* poor prison conditions
* arbitrary arrest and detention, including prolonged solitary confinement
* lack of judicial independence
* lack of fair public trials, including lack of due process and access to counsel
* political prisoners and detainees
* excessive government violence in Kurdish areas
* substantial increase in violence from unknown groups in an Arab region of the country
* severe restrictions on civil liberties--speech, press, assembly, association, movement, and privacy
* severe restrictions on freedom of religion
* official corruption
* lack of government transparency
* violence and legal and societal discrimination against women, ethnic and religious minorities, and homosexuals
* trafficking in persons
* incitement to anti-Semitism
* severe restriction of workers' rights, including freedom of association and the right to organize and bargain collectively

Iran is a beautiful country with great people. The problem are the muslim extremists and the chosen leader by the muslim extremists.  Other than that, it's probebly a great place to live if not for crazy politics.

Yeah the capital of Iran (Teran, i think thats how you spell it) is like that and maybe a few large cities the rest of Iran is quite backwards, the same applies to most new MEDCs, eg China, the cities are quite high tech now but the rest of the country is very poor and the same is true for Japan, only the large cities are highly developed, but the less developed places arent thought as such because of the old Japanese architechture looking nice.

Iran just out lawed broadban internet to reduce the influence of Western Civilization.  The extremist leadership is worried that Western music, television, movies, etc. would be able to leak into the country easier with broadban access.  The internet there is now limited to a 128 kbit/sec connection.This is against major opposition from the scientific leaders of Iran.

You're absolutely right, but it does not justify Iran's situation. This thread is just one of many examples of how media used as propaganda can influence someone's judgment. For example, there's at least one person here, despite Iran's countless human rights violations and proclamation to wipe Israel off the map, who actually hopes Iran will get nukes to "balance the power" in the Middle East. Others even suggest that Iran is a utopia. All of this just from a few pictures. Scary, isn't it?
