Good?  AFAIC, Vista has about as much redeeming quality as Jabba the Hutt.

Dude i dont blame you. I think there activation methods are Very intrusive. Whoes to say they dont put a tiny program in here that sends info back to them all the time? I beta tested Vista the first day it came out, until about 2 weeks ago. After an email(the 50th one from ATI's Driver feedback program) Telling me that they will no longer support OpenGL, I said Cya Vista. I still have a few games i play that need OpenGL.  Get this, the Vista driver for ATI is 75mb yes 75mb and its over 130 or more INSTALLED!.  While Vista loads quicker, thats about all i found good. You can get the other stuff included in vista from MS right now and use them for XP, Like Windows Defender(very good spyware tool) Windows Media Player11 Beta, And IE7. All from the MS site. Pretty sad when an OS doesnt even have Native OpenGL support built in in the first place.

I think DX10 and vista will be the final nail in the coffin for the PC gameing industry. Your going to see even the The games like WOW and the likes going to the console. You have to figure, even from my stand point, to do an upgrade to a cheap conroe, Thats board, processor(1.66Ghz) and memory(2gb 667) would run me $545 plus a new DX10 card. Why the hell would i do this when i have a 360 sitting in the livingroom?

Vista-DX10+Hardware= Death of PC Gameing. Its been comeing for a LONG time.

LOL I love people like you Headstone...no offense, but theres always people like you who think "OMG death of teh gaming on teh PC!!" Everytime new hardware comes/software/etc. come out its the death of PC gaming. Not to pick on specifically you, but mainly your thoughts.

Vista isn't even released yet. There are bugs in every new thing that comes out. Not just new computer software and the like but in cars, machines, everything. When it is brand new there are always things that need fixed. Give Vista a couple years and not only will it be cheaper, but it will be tried and tested and should be the best OS of our generation.

Dude, HAve you been watching lately? Ive been doing this for 8 years now(running gameing servers) The numbers have fallen off the charts. People arnt as inclined as they once were to upgrade in smaller amounts to play a game on line. Now, with Vista, DX10 and the Hardware required to Play a simple PC game, VS Buying an Xbox and going LIVE, what do you think Joe Sixpack is going to do? Hes going to buy a cheap ass Internet PC for his Banking and Porn, And a console and a Plasma TV and a comfy chair to sit and chat an play games with his friends.

Even the most established servers out there dont get the traffic they once did. On the off chance the Clan or alliance (as some are called) go to Bigger and better games, Some of there own members cant afford to upgrade to play it. Thus dropping out leaving that much more burden on others to anti up the coin to pay the bills. Right now we run 8 servers, In the 6 years we've had these particular ones, Ive never seen such low attendance. We always keep the content fresh, but when you go check the server listings, you see that theres more than 75% of the servers empty most of the time. What do you think is going to happen to FPS gameing when the gamer is forced to make a major upgrade the likes of The Vista and DX10 requires? If you think im crying wolf, thats fine, But Ive been at this far too long not to notice when things are on a downhill slide.

With the popularity of the games such as WOW and the affordability and ease of useing Xbox live and it complimenting peoples decore, What route do you think they will take in the future? Games like WOW and its offspring will be the games for the PC that outlast this, Because of the nature of the game being a social one. But the FPS genere is Not going ot fare to well this time around bud. I was programing my own games before Doom even came out, So i really have seen the ups and downs of the industry. I just feel that this might be a knock out blow this time around.

the mere fact that most companies dont want to or just are not going to recode there games for the PC should be telling you something. Bad enough you cant walk into any store now and get PC games like you once could. Even EB games is Carrying the bare essentials when it comes to PC games. Same with Wally world.

The death of PC gaming has been bantered about since the day after the birth of PC gaming. 

Tides may turn and numbers may shift, but PC gaming will always be a large enough market to keep developers very interested.  As long as PC's exist, there will also exist a very large subset of gamers capable of pumping many millions of dollars straight into developers pockets. Can you honestly believe that the community of game developers will collectively turn their backs on a platform which can provide untold millions of extra dollars in revenue?  Would their stockholders even allow such blasphemy?

Should PC gaming die, do you realize that a billion dollar industry of high end PC component providers must also die?  Are you freaking dreaming?  So.  One day, due to the overwhelming success of console gaming, a multi-billion dollar industry just decides to call it quits.  No more GPU makers battling it out for the holy grail of FPS?  No more gaming oriented high performance PC parts?  Forget the massive amounts of sales AMD and Intel regularly gain based solely on gaming benchmarks. Forget the astounding numbers of motherboards sold each year due to overclocking abilities and the search for higher framerates.  Yep, you've lost your freaking mind.....the high end PC industry lives or DIES with gaming.  Sure, it would exist due to other PC uses but it would be a mere shadow of it's former self without the PC game driven segment of it's market.

These constant upgrades (and let's see you upgrade a console by the way...) keep a very large number of PC's at the forefront of technology and as a result, gaming technology can evolve much faster than on a console which only sees a technological leap every 3 to 5 years.  As a result, the cutting edge of gaming tech has ALWAYS been PC driven.  Take Crysis for example.  Crytek never even considered a console version.  The level of performance they intend could only be acheived on a PC and so it became a PC only game.  This same technology will one day filter down to console games.

Let's face it, the fact that console gaming has evolved to the point it is currently at today is largely due to the cutting edge technology (be that software or hardware) that PC gaming continually brings to the game developers tables.

Anytime I hear someone suggest the "final nail in the coffin" of PC gaming I laugh my ass off.  There are simply too many corporations with their hands in the PC gaming pie and let's not forget the billions of dollars changing hands each year as a result. 

This whole equation boils down to two things:  People with PC's, and money.  Last I heard there seem to be no shortages of either....

Ill say it again, Unless your into Sports or Role playing PC games Your not going to see the games rolling out like they use too for us FPS type players. Unless you want the same rehashed Games recoded to look prettier. To ME personally Thats Death to MY gameing. I refuse to play RPG games. Its a choice i made long ago with everquest when they wanted money on top of the money i was paying for internet. Mind you Thats for One game per month. Console i play all the games for that price if i decide to switch. Lets see what games didnt make it to PC so far, COD3 wont, MOH Heros(and No release date and no more news on Airborne yet) COD2(No Expansion). BF3? yah we got 2142, Reskined BF2 with some new toys. Only promising game in the near future is Crysis. Possibly the new FEAR series(Going by different name). Thats about all we got to look foreward too In the near future. Is that enough to Keep people holding on? So Keep laughing, the Processors and GPU's for those Consoles you are speaking of were developed before The ones we are now seeing for Our enjoyment. yah, the chips that are now just on the market. So Consoles and PC do go hand in hand Bro.
Those chips ARE the standard that the new Tech is going by, Just a bit more refined.

Im just getting sick of building and upgradeing these things at the drop of the hat. MS Loves to suck the lifes blood out of you just about every year with something new in there standards. Ive built and upgraded so damn many of these, I have a $25,000 card with newegg im still paying off. FFS when does it end?

FPS games are dead or dying. 
You are sick of all the "rehashed" games. 
You hate RPG games (unless it's on a console for an all you can eat price plan). 
A handful of previously PC games are not releasing for PC. 
There are only 2 games to look forward to for PC (and people will not "hold on" to PC gaming as a result of this).
You are sick of building and upgrading PC's.
You hate Microsoft.
You personally spent $25,000 at NewEgg.

Sounds like more of a personal issue than the "actual" death of PC gaming.  Let's chat again in about 5 years and we can discuss how far off the mark your predictions were.....

Do you not read the Threads on the sites when Ultra new hardware comes out and the problems it has. Wait until atleast the 2nd or third revision of the cards. They should have the bugs worked out of them and you will get a much better card you can hang on to for a long time. It wont take long for them to come out. Third, I dont like ANY RPG. I Like the fact you pay One Price and play ANY game.

Its not just a handful, I just cant remember the List or titles.

Basically yes, What else is in the works? Anything except the usual? Like Unreal or another short ass HL episode? Oh MAybe Brothers in arms? A 4 person Online Shooter.

Yes please lets do. We can then talk numbers. Because for a world wide game(like BF2, 53,000 Online isnt exactly staggering now is it? I check at all hours of the night and day). I know this doesnt reflect Private unranked servers, But theres nowhere that number playing those. Specially when WOW has over 7 million Playing it. Breaks your heart to see.

DX 9L will be Nothing Like DX10 and it wont allow you to Run Pure DX10 games or Hardware. That was answered long ago. In detail. Sorry again.

Your right there, But 9L is being implimented so non DX10 hardware can run Vista. Now, If you truely have a DX10 computer, your vista is going to Look totally different mind you. 9L is Microsofts subtle way of throwing the peole who dont or cant upgrade there computers a bone, to upgrade to Vista.

Vista Will require atleast a gig to run smooth if you plan on running vista plus a couple programs at the same time. I dont care what anyone says about final release, MS is saying it and ill tend to listen to them fo Iv seen it first hand in the beta test since the first release. 512mb leaves you with about 20-50 mb left and thats not enough to even run yahoo if you need to.
