Ok Americans, the mid-term elections are right around the corner. I would like to think with the amount of opinions floating around these forums that those who are able to VOTE do so. Regardless of where you stand on the issues the most important thing you can do as a citizen is to allow your voice to be heard. We started early voting here today so I am just reminding everyone.

The next two elections I believe will be the most pivotal elections in my lifetime. I believe these will affect where this nation is headed for a long time. Don't let it pass you by.

So who is registered and voting?

If you would like to share how you are voting feel free.

Edit:Added to the topic.

But Sean Hannity told the whole left side of the country to stay home and not vote.  I wouldn't want to upset him by voting...

Arnold for Governator
Boxer for Senator
[anyone but] Feinstein for senator
McClintock for Lt. Governor

Registered and voting.

For anyone in California if you're not registered to vote then the deadline is TODAY. You can make the deadline if you print out and postmark your application today. Here's the text of an email I sent out to friends that might be of some use.

If you're not registered to vote, print out both page 4 and 5 (even though 5 seems extraneous, they need it) of this PDF and mail them both to the address on page 3 which is:

Secretary of State
Elections Division
1500 11th Street
Sacramento, CA 95814

You have to postmark it by Monday Oct 23 (TODAY!) which is the last day you can register to vote in the Nov 7 election. After you get registered they send you a voter info packet and the specifc nearby address of where you go vote. If you can't vote on the 7th you can vote from Oct 25 - Nov 6 at early voting sites if your county offers them - click on your county here and take a look.

Here's an online quiz you can take to find out which candidate for governor most closely shares your views on key issues.

Other stuff:
Main state elections site including propositions and candidates here
Official Democrat ticket here
Official Democrat recommendations on all the state props here
A quick guide to the arguments both for and against all the state propositions here

I was asleep when I was supposed to register. It was between the current democrat that voted YEA on #6166, wasn't getting my vote, or the republican who wants to ban flag burning and have senate term limits (not happening). So I guess it really doesn't matter.

Same here.  There is absolutely no one on the ballot that I would vote for, so I'm not wasting my time.

Had I registered, I probably would have voted for the Republican, but I'm not losing any sleep over it.

If either of you had voted in the past, you'd realize that you vote on more than one office at a time. So you don't like your choices for governor, go vote for your congressmen, your comptroller, health commissioner, mayor, police chief or any of the other dozen seats that are probably up.

Yes, I have voted many times before...I'm almost 40 years old.  I've seen who's out there for these offices, and it's just the same shit with a different name and package.  The only way I would vote in this election is if the ballot had an option for "None of the above".

You two make me almost as sad as lowing does. But I guess apathy is better than blind hatred.

Why?  If there is no one on the ballot that I feel will represent my interests, why vote for them.  I'm not going to vote, just to vote, and I certainly don't believe in voting for the lesser of 2 (or more) evils.  When the next elections come around, and if their is a candidate worthy of my vote, they will get it.

That's just an excuse, don't blame it on your state. I live in Texas and my choices are usually the corrupt, loud guy and the corrupt, angry guy. It's not too hard to spend an hour or two researching and find the lesser of the evils.

The lesser of two evils is usually the only choice we have. If you just wait for a good candidate, you're going to wait forever. All of the slimy jackasses that slid their way into office (when people were too lazy to vote) are never going to let someone competent and/or honest get in there. The system is mostly corrupt and this is the only way we have to change it. The tragedies here are that our only way to fight isn't very effective and half the country doesn't care enough to try.

Why vote for the lesser evil? Because if the choices are someone who stole $500 and someone who raped and murdered some kids, I'm sure as hell going to make sure the second guy doesn't get into office.

Anyway, nevermind. It's your right to not care what happens to you. I was just trying to help you, but you obviously are very happy now and don't want any outside interference. I'd bookmark this thread to post next time one of you complains about the way things are going, but I doubt you'd see the connection anyway. No hard feelings. Later.

You're incredibly arrogant. No one asked for your help. I at least understand that it's my own fault if I do nothing. Seems like you care too damn much about other people's business.

Not voting...now that's a topic.  I think if a public tally of people who chose "none of the above" was known, it would give room for change, and in many cases (choosing lesser of evils), it would hopefully change for the better.

I believe in a non-vote as a vote, but only if it's heard...because yes, it is as valid a vote as voting for a candidate (aka 'lesser of evils').

As for people complaining who don't vote, and those who flame them, they have every right not to vote.  If you flame someone complaining about a politician or a new law..and they didn't vote on them, be aware that you may be ignorantly accusing them because they may have heavily weighed out opinions and rebuttles, and ads, and every other campaign influence possible and simply not found merit in either condidate or measure.  And yes, it's more dangerous to carelessly vote than NOT to at all.  If you don't have an adequate level of both sides of a voting decision, you should NOT vote on it.  But then, it's not always easy to get an accurrate decision on a vote.  i've just spent 3 hours reading the CA propositions and reviewing some of the sights of the candidates for us representation..and my head is spinning.  After this 3 hours, i've made decisions on maybe 75% of the choices..totally stumped on the remaining 25%.

Vote Libertarian...  That's all I have to say.  As for my state, not much is happening here.  "Chainsaw" Charles Taylor is up for re-election, and hopefully, he'll lose....
