Out of necessity, I've become a tank whore. I wasn't in BF2 (check my stats), but I've found that anti-vehicle is more important than ever. While the noobs flock to the walkers, I take them out long range with a well placed tank shell.

Which brings me to the question: Which tank do you prefer?

I personally hate the Nekomata. It's gained the nickname of "the floating turd" in my clan, due to its poor control. Don't get me wrong, I know how to drive it, but when you are on a slight incline its speed feels to drop to less than 5 km/h. And if you get out on an incline (to repair, for instance) it slides away. When you are sniping something, you have to line up every shot once again. You can strafe, which is helpful, but the time it takes to begin moving or stop negates it as a good gunner can counter the movement. If you are too close to the enemy target the A8 can turn its turret to track the target, while the Nekomata has to rotate its whole body and expose the rear. The Nekomata cannot hover over water, or small obstacles, such as the border walls on Verdun.

Then what, I ask, what good is the hover tank?

tiger more stable

but the tanks are way underpowerd

i mean year 2142....means super velocity sabot rounds that should rip a walker leg of but a full health tank againt a walker always loses

takes about six shots to kills them

no machine gun for driver and get damaged going over bumps

there not really tanks more SPG's/ howitzers with the scope

I actually like both the tanks, and am pretty successful with both of them.  The hovertank feels a bit faster and more agile than the EU tank, since strafing allows you to get past obstacles easier, but the EU tank is more stable.
As for tanks vs walkers, if you use the tanks right you can take out a walker.  Basically, you have to stay at range and use cover - shoot the walker, dodge behind cover while you reload, then pop out again.  Also, use the active defence when you see his missiles coming in, since the MG's do nothing against tanks, and most walker drivers are noobs who hammer the fire button down, thus overheating the missiles.
Conversely, when in a walker against a tank, I want to stomp right up to him, tapping the missile button in a regular pattern, and use the active shield when I think he is about to shoot.

Both tanks have their uses, I find the Nekomata is actually capable of taking out a walker if the shields are used wisely and the driver is a good shot while strafing.  This tank is a hit and run specialist.
Tigers are good with a slow methodical approach and are more capable of capping flags.
I'd say that the co-axial machine gun was removed from the tanks in 2142 to encourage team work..  Now the driver has to either trust a team mate for anti-infantry work, or switch positions to do it themselves.

... I feel your pain in regards to being flattened by my own Nekomata when getting out on a slope though

you can beat them your right

but taking in to account then sound of the gun the fact its in 2142 and the massive recoil, the shell should just shred anything in its path

its just like the Preist/Wespe on 1942 (mobile artillery) using the scope and shelling from 300m is the only way

like you said to beat a walker you need distance

Personally, I come from a chopper whore background of BF2, so in some ways the weight shifting of the Nekomata is kinda like flying a chopper. I think it's pretty agile for a tank and I've successfuly taken out Tigers with it. I think there's a learning curve associated with the Nekomata that if you get used to it ppl would probably really like it.
That said, the Tiger has the coolest sounding main gun and is a very good all round tank so i could definetly see why any would choose that as their first port of call.
But for me, I like the challenge of controlling the Nekomata on the battlefield

The Nekomata is fun. I don't know if it's more effective than the Tiger, but it is a lot more fun to drive. Really easy to run over your teammates though...

Biggest problem with it. It has no willingness to stop.

i like both....tiger is a little better for me because the shell-drop is easier to control. on that note though, the T32 has a more powerful projectile.

and whoever said that tank v walker always goes to the tank obviously hasn't played with me....or any of the countless tank drivers who have taken down my walker...

Nekomata . . . agile.  I do like the sound of the A8 Tiger main gun better.  I agree with 1800fist4u, taking the coaxial out of the tank driver's control does encourage teamwork.  BUT switching to the top gun is pretty easy.

I dont know about the conquest mod and its City maps but in titan mod Tanks OWN. You can shoot from 150 - 200 m. Destroy the stationary guns and than in most cases you can pwn the shit out of a silo. And like in BF2 people just dont like the AT/Engy class. Im sure that less then a quarter of players are engys. You can get the best K/D ratio and best streeks. Almost every kill is 2 points tbh. And no im not uber leet its just how it is.

Personaly hover tank is better mostly because when you get little used to it hiting people is not a problem and the best advantage is you are always facing them with you front part. Again I say, in titan mod there are alot of open spaces so you can start circeling around a enemy Tiger tank and he will follow you with its turret only. So seccond shot already can get him in the ass.

I can use both quite effectively, but the Nekomata just does not seem superior in any way. Sure, it can strafe, but the stopping speed is laughable and why it can't float over water is anyone's guess. Does it reload quicker than the Tiger? I think it might..?

And as for walkers, keep your distance. Personally though I think it is a little unfair that the tank has an extreme weakness of the back yet the walker does not (have a major weakness, it has a little one).

I love being a sniper. My favourite sniper rifle is the A8.

QFT.

Both tanks have a role to fill and i just think people fail to realize that.
The A8 is a distance fight oriented vehicle. Its stability and easy of shell drop control due to its lack of drifting all over the place makes it superior in distance fights.

The Nekomata is more of a "close quarters" or "Hit and run" type tank. Its ability to strafe and turn, hiding your weakest armor point at virtualy any time makes its survivability a superior to the A8 especialy when rushed by infantry. There is a huge learning curve for this tank however if the pilot knows what hes doing there is no reason he should ever lose 1v1 to a walker or another tank.

my only gripe??
AV Rifle one shotting tanks... what the frak? i went from 100 armor to 1(burning and boom) with 1 shot from that stupid Anti tank rifle...

I prefer the Type 32, b/c one on one with the Tiger, I will always win. I strafe around the tank and get to its rear for the one shot kill.

I'm a Type 32 fan, "easy" to control and atleast it feels way faster than the Tiger. Taking turns strafing and coming on hard against opposing forces is the win.. Mainly its swiftness is my preference.

However the chaingun for seat 2 in Nekomata is so nice. the low rumbling sound (sounds alosmt like when im hungy..)

Tank Vs Tank: a 32 should always win

Tank Vs Walker: a 32 is better if you get jumped at close range (circle strafing sometimes works), but the Tiger is much more stable, so firing from range at walkers is a whole lot easier

Tank Vs Everything Else: a Tiger should do better as the gun is more stable, but if you get good with it the Type 32 can use it's agility (compared to a Tiger) to dodge AT fire, and once you get used to the gun it's fine.

If the tanks are still basically the same as they were in the beta, then I'd prefer that funky hover tank.

BTW: The poll title doesn't show up correclty on the main site because the META http-equiv "content-type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" tag is missing.
