Okay lets say, that you have found a new graphics card and it needs x number of watt or volt.
Lets say 400w, then how much power does the rest of the computer need. So what will will the total number of volts or watts be.

I have 512mb ram(2700) will be upgrading to atleast 1gb(3200)

Processor is a pentium 4 3.0 GHZ.

Your CPU needs about 80W
Look here if you know the exact model

and I think RAM is about 10W per stick

just be rough.....

A 450W should easily power all of your stuff

If not, go higher - but my comp has a core 2 duo, and other large big stuff, and i have a 480W PSU, which will easily run it

Mad Ad is dead right - the PSU calculator at the first link is excellent.

Remember that PSU quality is more important than total power rating. In other words a 350W Tagan will be better than a 650W Crap-o-matic ;-)

I would go with a Tagan. I use the 1100 Watt PSU from Tagan in my computer and had no problems.

Heres the 480 Watt Tagan.
