I think humans should be allowed to hunt whales...only if they take spears, rods and rubberboats.

Did you even read the article or are you just that fucking thick?

on the endangered species list — in the period from Sept. 1, 2006 until Aug. 31, 2007.
Seriously GTFO of D&ST

There's only one solution! We must train the whales and give them the technology they need to defend themselves.

Whaling isn't inherently bad. It's only bad now because they're endangered. Once the population recovers, it's no worse than any other meat source.

In fact, I believe whaling is probably one of the most moral animals to hunt. Killing one whale feeds a LOT of people. One death = lots of full stomaches. Now compare that to chicken. One death = food for 2 or 3. How about shrimp. Ten deaths = an appetizer. The larger the animal, the more meat it yields and the more ethical it is to hunt it, as long as we don't hunt them to extinction.
Let's kill pandas, they are heavy bastards, you can feed a lot of people with one panda, but you know what, there're only 1600 left, that's why you should not kill them.
Did you even read my post? I clearly said "Once the population recovers, it's no worse than any other meat source." It's pretty simple. If it's endangered, don't eat it. If there were tons of pandas around, why would it be more wrong to eat them than it is to eat cows?

Nope! Because the increase of whale population are hurting other important food sources like the cod, its almost instinct, also  because  of over fishing by countries like Spain and Russia and SO on! Every thing has too bee watch care fully, too many whales means other species gets eaten by the whale and they again ends up instinct, just like the seal population has also increased! And they do also pose a threat too other species! Because of  the unbalance made of pollution and taking out too much of certain species, does mean as an an tempt too save the different life in sea and on land has too bee controlled and tacked out certain amount of in divides too make a balance! Remember what happened too the bison, wolves and so on! SO don't just swallow everything those Eco organizations says, its not all right everything  they say! I know I'm not making my self popular with this but remember you have too look at both sides too make your self up a meaning of how thing are! It´s like yin and yang! Everything has too balance too work out!

As an animal, I reserve the right to eat other animals as a wolf or lion or shark would. Fuck you, PETA.

now THAT'S actually a capital idea ...

Canadian Geese are an endangered species too ... ask any midwest-northeast American about their "scarce" population.

All that being said, I think it's idiocy to resume whaling.  Pure retarded people doing retarded things.  We can only hope said stupid people die in stupid ways before they are able to reproduce.

Without whaling, we'd never have neither Whalers of the Moon, nor Animaniacs parodies of classic literature

Whales are so big that they can supply for a whole ecosystem, it' not just as simple as "if we kill thm all there will be no more whales."
Comparing whales to deer populations is just fucking stupid. Deer can breed incredibly fast and regain numbers, whales however are not as fast.

Just because their numbers are up dosn't mean we can hunt them to near extinction again. Todays technology makes us whale-killing-machines, whales die by the thousands, especially for the Japanese - they have so much whale meat they're using it in pet food, and giving out coupons so people will buy the stuff - then they have the balls to tell the rest of the world that they're doing it for scientific research, (then an Aussie group of marie biologists found out the same information in a shorter time without killing one whale.)

I don't agree with whaling - I hear the meat is sub-par, like rubbery chicken, (not that I ever want to try it,)and we no longer use most of the other products a dead whale can give us, meaning most of the carcass is thrown away. I also don't like the way they're hunted - I don't like the idea of an explosive harpoon thrown through their midsection so they slowly bled to death.

Lastly, have any of you even seen a whale? They often come into the harbour, once or twice I've been lucky enough to be kyaking at the same time, (once when Orcas showed up so I was shit-scared - actually, Humpbacks are fucking huge and I was scared to get too close then too. The dolphins were okay though.) They're not just another fish, they are amazing creatures. To think of them dead and bleeding being dragged on board a ship to be carved up and stored in a warehouse until their best-by date passes is horrible. To try hunting them when they are apparently just on the inside or outside of endangered is short-sighted and stupid.

Yes, I did read your post, but I don't agree, they are not just like any other animal.  Humans are animals too, and you won't eat people.  There's a difference between pandas, elephants, whales, big apes, and a cow.  I feel sorry for the cows, too.  But, what can we do?

LOL...  ah yes...  Horse...  What about cat or dog?

I favor environmental protection, but I think an Icelander in this thread already hinted at the practical solution.  They could just put limits on how many whales could be hunted per year.  Various countries already have laws in place that are aimed at preventing overfishing.  Where they have been applied, they've worked.

There's no need to ban whale hunting outright.
