Im an extremely dark hispanic. Both my parents were immigrants. Wanna deport me fuckers?
entirely on point. I hate ignorance. I hate being called a god damn mexican. Im American and my parents are from the DR and Nicaragua. people who generalize are part of the problem, not the solution.IRONCHEF wrote:
I hate referring to mexicans, guatamalans, panamaniacs, and other southern neighbors as Hispanic. They don't refer to themselves as Hispanic or Latino. That term is how Americans have labelled them and it's ignorant. You really, really don't need to refer to someone by some obscure label just because you don't know what to call them. How bout calling them people? Damned political correctness movement.TrollmeaT wrote:

whats hispanic?
1. Spanish.
2. Latin American: the United States and its Hispanic neighbors.

His-pan-i-cal-ly, adverb
If you are from Mexico, you are Mexican...not from Lata or Hispania. And if some ignorant American calls you Mexican and you're really from Honduras, don't freak out, just correct them so they can enjoy your unique Hondoran culture and personality.
Ok, I"m calm now. Labelling people and referring to people by race is how racism stays alive.
You bring up another point I think of often...
If I, who am an American go to the Philippines and say I'm Filippino (because I'm half filippino), I would be laughed at. Yet EVERY DAMNED IGNORANT application for anything in the US makes you categorize yourself by the country of your ancestors or by race. Where's the fargin slot that says "American?" And no, not the ill-named "native american" slot which is a disgrace. I often select "OTHER" and write in "American." It's like they think you need to bring your geneology chart with you so you can pick a race/nationality from some grandparent 6 generations up or something...
When people from France visit here, they say they're French. When a "mexican-american" or "african-american" or some other hyphenated american goes to a foreign country, do they claim that title? Do people in that foreign country then call you by that title? No, they'll call you american because you are from that country.
Further, If I'm born in Belgium, but moved to the states when I was a small child and lived here since. Do i call myself Belgian when I visit China? NO, you are american and call yourself American. Sure you can elaborate in a conversation that you were born in Belgium, etc, etc.
Ok, i'm calm again....aaaaaaaaaahhhuuuuuuuummmmm....

Political correctness is stupid, hereafter referred to as PC in my post. The PC movement has brought about the need to refer to someone by some label because everyone is offended no matter what “socially sensitive” manner you use to refer to them! I don’t know who started it, but there seems to be this overriding assumption that when people refer to someone they don’t now by their country of origin, it’s racist. Well what the heck else are we supposed to call each other?!?! That guy over there? I’m white, so call me white, Caucasian, German, or whatever . . . I don’t care! I’m proud of my heritage and referring to me in any of those groups should not offend me. I’m not racist, yet I’m never sure whether to call someone black or African American, Mexican or Hispanic, Japanese, Chinese, Korea, Vietnamese, or Asian. I’ve had people offended no matter what I choose.
So what to we all need to do? Stop being offended! Take pride in the country and heritage you were born into! Everyone is not out to insult you!

I agree. All this political correctness stuff drives me nuts. So long as no offence is meant, it's ok.Stingray24 wrote:
