At the same time, there is plenty of paranoia blithely distributed by the media at the cost of public respect accorded to real environmental science.

If you want to know when it's going to take place the next hurricane read this.  They're pretty accurate.
They also say there have been 13 hurricanes so far this year. Just beacuse 2005 was particularly bad doesn't mean a each year will be worse. What can be seen, however, is an increasing trend in hurricanes, particularly in the Atlantic.

The media I read is called National Geographic, not The Liberals Journal about Global Warming.

Never implied anything about your possible personal sources, but there are media entities that love to exaggerate. But I guess it was a coincidence that I replied to two of your comments there. Didn't even look. As for the date of origin of the EPA, I was indirectly referring to a particular unpopular administration at the time.

That's hardly relevant.

You don't know shit. Global warming is a major issue. You just have to open your eyes and see it. Perhaps read a little more, get a wider view and not just rotten up in front of your screen. Get to know your planet mister. Your in it with everyone else, either you want it or not.

Hey, I didn't bring up politics and the EPA first in this thread. At least not first.

Mean temperature of Mercury = 440k     78million km from sun
Mean temperature on Venus = 737k       108million km from sun

So I guess the atmosphere of a planet makes an absolutely enormous difference to the planets temperature.

Well us driving gas guzzelers is making our atmosphere closer to that of Vensus. Please counter my statement so I can counter that and further establish the D&ST cliche.

You and your asinine ChickenLittle rantings is what isn't worthy for discussion.  Most scientists DO know what the hell they're talking about. . .just not the ones that Al Gore and the History channel rely on for their "The World is Gonna Explode!!" crockumentaries.
I can see that you're not willing to civilly debate this, so this is fair warning.  Prepare to be ripped a new one.

You have a strange way of saying that most scientists know what they are doing, and at the same time, contradicting that sentence since most scientists do actually believe in global warming.  I think it's quite obvious you don't know what the hell you're talking about.

Aenima_Eyes wrote:

Yes. . .it is possible that global warming caused by humans could melt the ice caps and raises the sea level.  Yes. . .it is possible that tomorrow a huge asteroid could smack the Earth and wipe out humanity.  It is also possible that I could go to sleep and not wake up. . .do I worry about it just because it is possible?  No.  That's irrational.
Out of sight, out of mind is rational?  Please pull your head out of your ass.

I'm all for doing things to help out the environment.  Hell, when I was in 8th grade that year learning about the miniscule amount of time humans have been around I did a fund raiser with my science class to donate money to save the rainforest.  However, Al Gore wants to go around and make asinine comments to give himself relevance in the eyes of the American people and make some cash while he's at it.  To suggest that because of human pollution the sea level is going to rise and flood all the coastal areas of America in TEN YEARS is bordering on criminal.  He's trying to foster a panic and it's ridiculous.  It's a lot like the cult leaders who say that aliens are going to end the world on such and such a day.  The day comes and goes with nothing happening and they just get even crazier and come up with even weirder excuses for why THAT day wasn't THE day. . .but THE day is really coming on so and so.
As I've said before, I don't buy Gore's exact interpretation of the future, but I can't see how his message is any more loony than the one that is currently being sold to us by the hawkish neocons.

Aenima_Eyes wrote:

Didn't all those same asshat scientists say that ALLLL the bad hurricanes last year were our fault, and that this year it was going to be 100x worse?  Whoops.  If they can't predict next year, I seriously doubt they can predict 10, 20, 100 years down the road.
More hyperbole I see.  I suppose this is an indication of your inability to level with people.  Yes, some scientists believe thermal ocean currents had something to do with the unusual hurricane season, but few said anything about predicting the next hurricane season.

Aenima_Eyes wrote:

Besides. . .who the fuck here thinks that people could stop polluting even if they wanted to?  Everyone isn't going to stop driving to work just so Al Gore will be happy that we're cutting the pollution output.  Besides, even if America quit today China and India and all the other developing nations will be replacing us and outdoing us.

So please. . .stop with that elitist fucking attitude and "do try" to stop sounding like a paranoid Al Gore copy cat clone.  Go reinvent the Internet or something and save us from having to listen to your nonsense.
I suppose it's better to be an elitist than such an obvious troll like you.

And by the way, there are things we can do about all this.  We can cut down on power plant emissions.  We can actually prosecute corporations that pollute our rivers.  We can do several things to clean up the environment, which has the added benefit of improving the public's air and water.  Of course, asshats like yourself wouldn't have any interest in that, would you?
Sorry, but you and Al Gore are the trolls.  There's about 10 BILLION other things that we can be worrying about and that WE CAN ACTUALLY FUCKING FIX instead of screaming about how in 10 years things will be flooded across the world.

I guaranfuckingtee you that if you come back here in 10 years not a damn thing will have changed.  Seriously, let's mark it down.  October 16, 2016 you best show your pansy ass back up here on this forum.  If everyone in Florida and the coastal areas have drowned I'll say you're right.  Until then, shut the fuck up with this nonsense.

Also, I said I was plenty interested in helping the environment.  Just not interested in listening to Al Gore's lunatic ravings.  I mean, there's a reason the Democrats dumped his ass like a $5 hooker....he's crazy....

Just saying. . .we can do things to help the environment. . .but we're not going to stop global warming.  The human population is just going to continue to rise and pollution is going to rise right along with it even if we took drastic steps to curtail it.

So, let's all scurry to save the ice caps which we haven't proven beyond a shadow of a doubt are melting because of our doing instead of feeding starving people, helping the poor get a better standard of living, or anything like that.  Yeah, let's save trees and shit before people.  Trees and icecaps are WAY more important than people.

Besides, we all know that rogue asteroid is going to hit us any day now so what's global warming matter anyway?

Africa's two highest mountains — Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya — will lose their ice cover within 25 to 50 years if deforestation and industrial pollution are not stopped, environmentalists warned.

"This is a major issue because declining ice caps mean the water tap is effectively going to be turned off and that is a major concern," said Nick Nuttall from the U.N.'s Environment Program.

Troll: An individual who regularly posts specious arguments, flames or personal attacks to a newsgroup, discussion list, or in email for no other purpose than to annoy someone or disrupt a discussion. Trolls are recognizable by the fact that they have no real interest in learning about the topic at hand - they simply want to utter flame bait. Like the ugly creatures they are named after, they exhibit no redeeming characteristics, and as such, they are recognized as a lower form of life on the net, as in, “Oh, ignore him, he's just a troll.”

Most of your posts are of that nature.  At least most of the other opponents of the global warming idea in this thread have actually listed facts and sources.  I can level with someone who sincerely has an interest in discussing the pros and cons of a topic, but you spend more time spouting polemic arguments.  It's as if you want to turn threads into flame wars.

You and MajorJerkwad should hook up -- you're on opposite ends of the political spectrum, but you both love to insult and argue with people.  You'd be the perfect couple.  For the rest of us, spare us your bullshit.

Sure, laugh, but our winters have gotten more erratic and more extreme recently. Drastic changes in climate are a significant sign of a huge imbalance in our environment.
