Ok, saying things would be better if Strom Thurmond had been president when he ran on a segregationist platform is not interpretation. I think it would be pretty cool if Adolf Hitler ran the county. We all know what platform he runs on, what things will you "interpret" from that.

I am not defending Byrd at all, he should be out. There's this nasty tendency though to attack everyone who's not Republican since Foley got caught with his pants down. Aside from that, it's nothing more than the run of the mill Bush bashing. All politicians do shady shit. Pointing fingers at everyone isn't going to accomplish anything.

How robust is it?  What do you do to find out, you watch the DOW or you ask people in the street?  You may get to different conclusions.
I watch the DOW and other real economic indicators.  If you want to determine the state of the economy by walking up and down the street and asking people what they think, go ahead.  I want numbers, not liberal opinion polls.

I fail to see how Mr Frank and Mr Foley are comparable:  Mr Frank may be morally reprehensible, but legally he did nothing wrong.  Mr Foley appears to have proposed sexual acts to a minor.
I'm a little confused here...  I thought both of these guys messed around with a minor.  I consider both of them wrong, personally.

So which party has the high ground?
Neither...  The Democrats blew it with Frank (maybe that was a bad metaphor to use there), and the Republicans blew it with Tom DeLay.  Both sides get a failing grade when it comes to accountability.

It's worth noting that the Democrats did hold responsible that Jefferson guy in Louisiana who embezzled a bunch of money though.  This was a few months ago....

Imagine the outrage if a leading republican had referred to New Orleans as a 'chocolate city'. I don't think that a republican could get away with calling Hershey, PA. a chocolate city.
Ray Nagin is so stupid and corrupt that I'm not sure if it's fair to call him a Democrat or Republican.  He's registered Democrat, but he donated a few thousand to Bush's campaigns in both 2000 and 2004.  He's basically an opportunistic ass and not much else.  The Democrats would be wise to oust him from his party.

Another thing to consider is lack of coverage of yesterdays new ALL-TIME high of the DOW industrials. While much was laid at GW's doorstep for the recession shortly after he took office...no notice is being taken of how ROBUST the economy is now.
Most economists refer to this robustness as "jobless growth" and "massive indebtedness."

As a conservative friend of mine put it, Bush is a borderline socialist.  He's dramatically increased federal spending in most regards, and he sweetened the deal by cutting taxes beforehand -- ensuring this would incur major debts.

Let's see:
Dow is at an all time high
Home ownership is at or near all time highs
Unemployment is very low
GDP has been growing for the past 4 years...at times setting benchmarks
Wages are up
Inflation is low
Interest rates are still very low

The only blip on the radar are gasoline prices...which are tumbling and predicted to return to approx $1.25/gal.
The housing market is on the edge of bursting.  Unemployment is down, but underemployment is up and wages have stagnated in most industries.  (Yes, wages are only up with regards to nominal value, not real value.)  Inflation is low, for the moment...  The rising trade deficit is likely to change that in about a year.

Gas prices are as volatile as they come.  Only a year ago, they were considerably higher, and 2 years ago, they were lower.

gas fell under 2 bucks here last week
Wouldn't have anything to do with the upcoming elections now would it.  Geez, what am I thinking, that would be a conspiracy.  I mean the price of oil is at $58 a barrel, same as it was 8 months ago when gas was $2.65 here.
World demand and refinery production determine gas prices, not conspiracies.
