141 mph in a 1.4rt Renault Clio (unleaded) about 10 years ago on the M4 on Boxing day, I only notice because my gf told me to "fucking stop it".  The grey barrier is just a blur as are the trees and the white dotted/broken lines are a continuos white stripe.

A few years ago my car mad best mate rings and tells me "Taff, I bought a fucking imported skyline, you wanna see it it's a beast".

So he took myself and at the time my 11 year old step son out.  Its was a minor motorway (A329M) which supplies Reading (nr london).  It was rush hour so the roads were busy.  He let a motorbike roll right up close to him in the outside lane we were doing 100 mph, he wacked his foot down and left the bike standing, the twin exhausts flamed he continued accelrating as I can only describe as being "on a runway in the plane".  At 155 mph, I told him "enough's enoughs" as I could see the blur's mentioned above.

He was dissapointed as we still had another gear to go up to, 6th, another 50 mph on the clock, "its stops at 200 mph, but continues to accelorate" he added.

I trust this fella more than myself but even so as the police explained to me before "if you get a blow out you die".

I was stopped in my Toyota Celica (pop up lights) doing 99.6 mph, I had been doing 120 mph and they new it but I'd slowed down to have a smoke when they pulled me in an unmarked mondeo, .4 mph away from loosing my licence.

We couldn't break mach because the of pussy-ass Navy transfer pilot. He seemed hesitant on our max/vert climb on take-off and didn't wanna pull negative g's (pulled zero and 8.3 though) or a loop. I got mine in Vegas and flew over a bunch of canyons and shit. I got to take the stick for a while and did a few rolls.
I smell bullshit!

Way off topic: Are the army pilots still talking about knots? I thought they would have been using mach as the unit after the planes started going supersonic on a regular basis...

Knots are definately used more than mach on airliners though...
Sorry i have to intrude here but Mach is used in airliners commonly because of the difference between groundspeed and airspeed. Aircraft cruising speeds are mainly in Mach although the takeoff/landing, flap limits, speed limit under 10 000 feet is knots. Mach will only be used in jets when traveling above Mach 1 he explained he did not go over that speed and it is very normal for the Learner to be able to take the controls. If you go down to your local airfield and get a flying lesson you will probably be put up in a Cessna 152 or a Piper Commanche 180 you will be allowed to do the takeoff and 75% of the flying in the air once you establish 1500 or higher. If youre lucky and havea good instructor he might let you climb if he sees you doing well. Flying in a 2 seater F16 the learner should be able to fly once established. Its not hard to fly straight 1 eye is on the Virtual Horizon the other on the Altimiter. Keep the Black on the white line and make sure you havent got any changes in altitude. Also if you had a good instructor he would have pitch trimmed the plane so it would be possible to just fly straight.

Sorry to the Liberal of the year but i forgot the US flies planes in the Navy the F14 is retired from any form of US combat military service. Happy? Also you again being as ignorant as possible didnt read my full post and intentions of trying to help someone.
Of course flying straight is easy! Pay attention to the part I highlighted with italic text. I didn't belive that he got to make rolls on a jet! As I said, I got the impression he won the ride somehow. Would you belive if someone who has never flown or knows nothing about planes would be allowed to make a few rolls?

Any instructor would trim the plane for you, just to make it less of a work out to keep the plane straight. Atleast on airliners, flying a plane that's trim is off is fysically hard because the plane is pushing to another direction and you have to counter it.

You're of course right about the knots, I kinda messed up while typing Basically I was saying that it's still used alot and used more than mach in some cases :S

Gotto love how my head works after a week of 4h sleep/day

Btw, thanks for answering my question about when is mach used on military jets! +1

No probs Gawwad but i dont have overly too much doubt that the pilot let hi do a roll unless he was wearing a pressure suit. A roll in a Cessna 152 in 3'G's or 3 times the weight of gravity. A amature in a F16 could black himself out even thought it is a minimal amount of G's the average is about a few seconds of 7G's or over. This is what WW2 pilots faced and many died when fainting. The pilot he was flying with should have had over 150 Hours in the F16 or a jet similar so he was probably expereinced. But going up on your first go and doing a roll in a F16 alone is overkill. Here in Perth the first flight we give at The Royal Aero Club of Western Australia is a C152 down the river and down the coast coastal altitude is 500 Feet we dont normally let the Learner take the Yoke this low there are some exceptions. We then give the learner the option of Acrobatics. We present them with 4 tricks. To do this we will climb over 3000 feet. once at 3000 we will demonstrate 1 Flat stall just so they can get oriented with what they will feel. The 2nd one we power the plane down to close to nothing and put it on a high bank angle. When the plane stalls we rudder the airplane left/right slide down then pull back up we will have made a 180 degree turn that way and performed 2 g's. We will then do a Loop 2G's a barrel roll is highly optional at this point as we will pull the most amount of G's in it 3. We then go and perform a landing and ask the learner to turn on and off the Carb Heat and set flaps for landing. We also let them do the takeoff flare and initial climb. We take care of the power settings. Now it shows that a barrel roll in the 1st lesson is possible but the Learner may never do any tricks it is restricted. Even though the Cessna 152 is a high wing mounted aircraft if when attempting to do one of these tricks the instructor is the only one allowed to touch the controls PERIOD. If the aircraft enters a tailspin it depends on the skill of the pilots and his experience with spinouts to recover the airplane (fairly easy for veterans). Now if you get the F16 in a tailspin theres 2 words to describe it Youre Fucked.

I think it was around 130mph, me and a couple friends went to Canada on a drinkin binge. Slept a little late the next day and my friend had to work. By the time we got home he wasn't all that late.

I don't remember what kind of car it was, it was something small though. Never thought it would go that fast.

I got my WRX Imprezza going 220 clicks (about 138 mph) down a one lane dirt road with forest right up to the road.  I felt like a rally driver and was loving it, even got air off some rollers.  Now I'm just glad I didn't kill myself, something I didn't consider at the time.  Stupid youth.  Last summer was great.
