I need a way to change resolution outside of the game (text file?)

Ok, so the damn game locks up when I try to change resolution. there's no way in hell i'm playing this game on my core 2 duo + x1800XL at 800x600

It looks like 2142 uses the same text file entries that bf2 did to store video information. Can someone copy paste theirs and i'll just make the changes i need outside of the game. Wouldn't it be like the "video.cfg" or something?

This setting controls your current resolution in Battlefield 2. The format is Width x Height@Refresh Rate. If you cannot start up BF2 and change the resolution from within the game, try altering it here to help you startup the game. Change this to whatever reslolution you want and you should be good. -haffey In particular when you want to launch BF2 for the first time and the game just crashes back to desktop (See Troubleshooting Tips section), you can change the resolution from its default of 800x600@60Hz to one your monitor supports. Note however that certain resolutions are unsupported and entering them here will not work - see the Command Line section further below.

All of the above settings can be adjusted from within the in-game Video settings. However the highest they can be set to is High from within the game (a value of 3). By setting them each to 4 in Video.con (as shown above), you will have them displayed as 'Videosettings_Ultrahigh' in the in-game Video settings screen, and some people believe this increases the graphics quality to Ultrahigh levels. I didn't see any impact from this change, but if you want the absolute best quality in BF2 give it a try.

Well the resolution worked, but my video settings still seem to be stuck on low, although the number is set to "4"

Update: As of the BF2 1.3 Patch, you can no longer set Ultra High quality, the highest value which works for these settings is 3, which is also the maximum possible when using the in-game settings.

lockups can happen from a combination of things.

for example, OC'ing your system can cause lockups. or, your pc may run steady oc'd, but then you add in 1280x1024@120Hz and then it can lockup. so there can be several reasons for it locking up.

Actually, its not working because the target name is wrong, it should read:

"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142Launcher.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

Just make it whatever resolution you want.

Depends whether you got it off EAD or off a DVD/CD.. The DVD/CD will be "bf2142.exe" the EAD will be "bf2142launcher.exe" as the EAD version uses EAD to launch it as CS uses Steam to launch itself.
