I've had trouble shooting at players on ziplines since I first started playing SF if they're moving perpendicular to me or at any real angle and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where to aim for greater success.

Does the hitbox lag behind, is it aligned okay, is it in front? Or does it just depend so much on ping and lag that it's a coin toss? I was shot mid-flight by a support guy the other day, sounded like only a short burst, and I was moving pretty quickly and at right angles to him; did he just get lucky or can you do this reliably?

Why take the trouble of shootin him when one can also place a package of C4 at the end, or what about a nice claymore?

if the hitbox lagged behind, then you would seem to not have to track ahead of the taget as much... im 50/50

Well a couple of reasons. First the arming time for a claymore is too long, second I don't generally use them for self defence, but anyway, if he were coming right toward me I wouldn't have much trouble since that's where it's actually not too difficult to do. If I were a sniper I'd use the pistol, if I were playing spec ops I'd just use the G36C.

just wait at the end with shockpaddles ready or a knife ready. or fire at one poitn ahead of him and wait for him to die.

I was trying to kill zipliiners the other day on Warlord with the MG36.  I was at nearly a right angle and couldn't hit them to save my soul even though I was at a relatively short distance and using burst and their zipline angle was not extreme and they were moving fairly slow.  I'm rarely able to kill zipliners unless I'm virtually dead-on straight ahead or behind them.  I'll get a kill at an angle once in a while but generally not.  I think the guy who got you was lucky, and I was not that guy.

It's screwed up.  Voodoo.

Dayum! Well if you can't do it then I sure as hell won't be able to given how much I suck with the LMGs. Ah well, that's what practice is for I guess.

To give you a better idea, there were 2 guys zipping from the tv station flag balcony to ground level on the eastern approach to the alley (?) flag (whichever one is south of the MEC tank spawn).  So they're not zipping very fast because the angle is not extreme.  I'm prone to the west of the burning apc that sits at the intersection in front of the tv station, almost against the building on the southwest corner of the intersection.  So I'm pretty much perpendicular to the zip line but I have a clear view.

I figured I had them dead to rights but didn't land a single hit.   I had time to get out 4 bursts.  I'm not even going to bother trying to shoot at zipliners anymore if I'm at any sort of significant angle from the zipline.

I've had similar problems with zipliners.  I've managed to tag them by shooting both in front and behind them at different times.

From what I can tell, the animation and the hitbox rarely match up while the guy's on a zipline, so if there's any kind of angle, it's pretty much random as to whether or not you hit them.  My advice is that you use an LMG, and keep a pretty constant spray going at a location his head needs to pass through, and hope you catch him.  If you're using a single-shot gun (particularly the blot-action rifles), you really can't get them except by sheer chance, so I wouldn't bother.

On a not entirely unrelated matter, I had a great session on Warlord last night where, for the first time in ages, I decided to spend some quality time with my G3.  The combination of power and accuracy makes it a perfect weapon for picking off paratroopers as they come in   Didn't get the chance to try for any zipliners, though...

Crap, I was afraid of that.

Yeah, got one yesterday. Total fluke.

I usually go spec ops and practice aiming with the G36C's sights but today I had a little bit of practice with the SVD. I'm going to try to use the next Insurgent shut-out to see if I can get any better with the RPK or PKM since it's possible to kill guys with them before they even get into grenade-throwing range... apparently.

get a PKM or an MG36, Saw, or any support gun and gun them down
