After 11 years, my wife has decided to be dangerous and stupid. She's bi-polar, mixing her drugs with alcohol and pain meds, and leaving me.

She doesn't work, wants no support.
I'll be given child support payments by the court and live in the same small town so I can be with my kids almost daily...
She won't have insurance.
I've never beaten her or done anything else like that...

SO, I'm in the midst of my grief and thought it would be interesting to know how many others have experienced the exquisite pain...

My soon-to-be ex-wife doesn't cook either...now if you want a classic french pepper steak, I can hook you up...and I'll give you an appropriately brawny Cab as an accompaniment, to boot!

hang in there dude... i went through a similar relationship... you cant compete against addiction
the alcoholic or the addict will pick the drugs....

until she realizes she has a problem... things wont change...
the most important thing right now is be there for your kids(which it sounds like you definitely are)
dont fight in front of them with your wife or use them as pawns... it will only mess them up and fill them with guilt....that somehow maybe they are responsible... good luck, you should check locally for a support group in your area... ill say a prayer... love your kids... they grow up so fast....        CB

Thanks, bro...I'm not fighting at all anymore...nothing left to fight for...we're doing the paperwork together and should have it filed no later than the 16th, which could mean I'm done completely with her by March (or earlier if our petition to waive the waiting period is granted). If things work perfectly, I'll be completely done with her in about a month.

I'll get the house sold, give her the 50% I promised, immediately buy a house with my half and get on with it...

I've been there too - divorce after 14 years married. One thing you will need to do is repeatedly reassure the kids that it wasn't their fault. No matter what the circumstances of the split, those little ones always seem to find ways to blame themselves and carry that burden around. It's been 5 years for me and that is something that continues to periodically pop up.

Hang in there bud...

Been there done that... My advice... if this is fresh, dont take the no support as a sure thing... she will talk to friends and then get a lawyer and then clean you out... they all do. The children well make sure they dont feel the pain cause you end up picking them up in pieces later, they dont deserve that... Life is a beach and then you marry one. Hang tight keep your head life goes on. Dont let emotions carry your actions.   For what its worth I still talk to my 3 ex wifes and have no problems but I never got into their will to fight it out its cheaper to give the house and furniture and stay sane minded. Actually costs less than the legal fee's too.  On a closing note I hope she doesn't do the clean you out thing.

I'm below the legal age, but I'm sorry to hear about it.  If you need a person to talk too, I'm older than my years.

So, I'm already doing the living part...I've scheduled to be in Italy to watch the Milan-San Remo bike race this March...I've got enough FF miles to fly business class.

I haven't done many things I like in the past 11 years and now's my chance to do 'em and to introduce my kids to 'em. I'll get the blackness done in time and I'm going to start living again...

Oh, and the paperwork will be filed next week, so she won't have much ability to change her mind.

Also, if you can take her to court for a custody battle, you'd win in a heartbeat.  She has a substance abuse problem, and I'll get 99/100 times the judge will see her as not fit to raise kids.

Try and get Counseling and Psychiatric help for her and Counseling for you.
Believe me as hard as it seems its a lot easier to fix it than get a Divorce.

If you do get a divorce, it takes about one year than it gets good, you will have the time of your life. Put the kids first on any schedule or list of priorities. They be on there own before you know it and they have long memories. I never talk to my dad.

Four and a half years of counseling...she, in theory, finally has a psychiatrist, but two appointments does not make her stable. She's done and clearly in a major cycle, but since I've been the only one living with her, I'm the only one who sees it.

It's over.

I love her dearly, but she's done things this week to ensure it's permanent...

Man she's bipolar and only recently found help, you've got my empathy, life can be hard at times. What I don't get is, that she is a BP, and they let her have the children. Or the system in your country is bizarre, or ... no there is no or.

Ha well, more time for yourself now, time to be 25 whole over again

Thats to bad, make sure you have some one stable and knowledgable to talk to " the lets get drunk and laid " shit can be counter productive, be steady for the kids. In this dayand age of modern medicine its hard to believe it. Have you tried other doctors some one new? Where you live is there adaquate help ?
Could you possibly contact a more experienced professional for her?

Spending $600 today could save you $60,000 down the road in a year or two,

OMG !!    The only difference between your story and mine is that we had no kids ( thank god ) dont get me wrong kids are great but we never had any because the meds she was on were to powerful for her to have one growing inside her and the time married . she came into our den ( my computer room ) and interrupted me ( again ) while I was playing RTCW for some 20 hours straight and told me  " things are not working for me , I want a divorce " well an hour  later after I got home from the travel agent I moved all my personal things into my moms garage . The  next day she drove me to O`hare Airport and i was off to Charlotte ... she did all the leg work for the divorce, I gave her EVERYTHING. I owned the home before I met her but I didn't fight anything all I wanted was my dog puck my clothes and a few odds and ends and OUT of her psycho life. It seems the problems all started after I stopped smoking pot and she didn't want to quit, well she hasn't worked since I met her ( 7 years ) and I wasn't going to give her my hard earned money for drugs. a year later I spoke to her on the phone, she needed money  lol  she lost my house because she couldn't find work that didn't do drug tests. that kinda pissed me off that she threw away about 50,000 dollars  by letting the bank repo  the house I`ve had for 3 years before I met her. when I met her she was about 5`7 and 120 pounds WOW she was hot when I left her she was still 5`6 but a bit closer to 220 ( LOL I`m a great cook ). the very last time I saw her ( last year ) she came to my new home ,, needing money again lol ( as if ) but WOW she lost all the weight plus a few   looked like she was about 115  and stunning...  you know what i had in mind  lol  till she told me that she just got out of rehab and needed some cash to get an apartment. after closing the door in her face I sat back and thought how miserable i`d be if we were still together.  The best part.. the divorce was final on 12/09/02 seeing that my birthday is on 12/10 I thought about that being the best birthday present I`ve ever gotten
OH yeah.. today is my birthday  lol and yesterday was my 3 year anniversary for being divorced and free of her bullshit ...   Life is good !!

[1stSSF]=Nuka=  I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, makes me feel kind of selfish to put that I'm happily married and have been so for 15 years.

My first marriage went down the drain after 2 years... I got ill (not my fault) and she left at Christmas... no pressies and no turkey dinner, I think I was upset more about the dinner.

I hope everything works out well for you... hang in there.
