Well, I recently re-installed windows.  So, first thing I do is install Battlefield 2.  No errors at all, installs fine.  I game for a bit, then get a craving to play some Special Forces, so, I pop in the install disk, and about 25% way through, I get an error message looking like this...

I would click OK, and then would try from the beginning, but would get the same error message each time.

I used to play Special Forces fine before I reformatted...and never had any errors, espeically when installing.  Anyone seen this, or have any advice?  Maybe it has to do something with patching?  Anyway, I'd greatly appreciate anyones help.  If all else fails, I'll uninstall BF2 and reinstall, then install Special Forces before downloading any of the patches, but if anyone has seen this before and knows how to fix it, then that sure would save me alot of time.  Thanks guys.

I've tried that, multiple times, lol.  Nobody else has had this error when trying to install SF?  Wow, maybe a reformat will fix it?

No, my CD is in immaculate condition. In fact, that was the 2nd time ever it went into a PC...

I really need to solve this...
Surely out of the thousands of members to these forums, some1 has had the same error and solved it...

erm,i haven't had a problem, but have you considered there could be some dust on your CD or something similar?

I figured it out. I know no one cares, but for the next poor person that gets this error :

Step 1 : Delete/Unistall ALL traces of BF2 and SF on your PC (including registry files/keys)
Step 2 : Reboot
Step 3 : Install BF2 from CDs/DVD (don't patch yet)
Step 4 : Reboot
Step 5 : Install Patch 1.4 FULL
Step 6 : Reboot
Step 7 : Install SF from CDs/DVD (don't worry about the patching)
Step 8 : Reboot
Step 9 : Install Patch 1.4 FULL (again)
Step 10 : Reboot

et voila!

Hm, well I simply brought the game back to Best Buy and exchanged it for another Special Forces disc.  Got home, installed it, and it worked fine, so I'm assuming it was just my disc.  Anyway, glad you found out how to do it, but I really could have used that info a few months ago .
