Hello gamers,

Here is the situation :
* I have implemented the patch 1.4 since 2 or 3 weeks now and since a couple of days I have a lot of disconnection. I can join the servers and after 1 minutes or 2 , I got the message " the connection to the server has been lost".
Before, I had no problem at all with 1.3 patch with the same configuration

I have been on several forums and I have done a lot of things like :
- Reinstall BF2
- Install new drivers for graphic card
- Close all firewall
- Update PB
- Etc....
I know I m not a expert in PC but I don't know what else to do !!

Here are the results of my research on the net :
- Some people say that it's a bug with 1.4 and my situation is not the only one. Some players have exactly the same problem !
- Some gamers have used the freeware " GameXP" and have solved the problem.
- Some people have solved the problem by updating PB manually.

I'm just asking if someone has a clue of what happen .
I have read a lot of things on this forum but cannot find the right solution to the problem.
Is it really a problem with patch 1.4 ???
does someone know something about "GameXP" ?

The discussion is open !
I'm really disappointed because I cannot play for week and BF2 miss me a lot !
Thanks for your answers and advice gentlemen!

It really depends on WHY you get the DC. For instance, since the patch, I'll almost ALWAYS crash to Desktop when picking up a new kit, or get revived without one... A "feature" of the new patch one might say. However, the majority of the dreaded server crashes are now "fixed". And as you say, there are still problems with the individual clients.
I still prefer that a single client goes, than the entire server.... It sucks when it's MY client though.

If you have tried the usual:
Uninstall BF2
Clean up cache files
Reinstall BF2
Reinstall SF/EF/AF
Update BF2
Manually update PB

Then I'm sorry to say that you may need to make a backup of whatever files you want to keep on your PC, then format and reinstall windows !

Hey dude.

I have been having the exact same problems. I get in a server and the ping is low; then BAM it goes through the roof and I get kicked. I thought this was related to a router and spyware problem. Most of the dc's happened within 15 secs of playing in a map.  I got a new router and my internet was restored. I submitted a help request on techsupportforum.com and did what the told me. After completing their help, it was much better. I played in a server longer but I got the dreaded "Your Connection was lost". I got excited until the helicopter kept freezing. Second try never got into a map. Third server: I actually completed a round without getting dc'd! RTJ larger map standard play.  So in short I am still looking for a definitive answer. The funny thing is, I did not have any problems with the 1.4 patch until 2 weeks ago. I though it was my IPS or hardware but I sense something larger under the surface. Do a search in the website above for my name as an author and you can see what the guided me through. I am waiting for a reply to the latest post I made. My ISP is comcast cable if that helps you any.

Let me know if you see or hear anything else. I have seen a lot of similar posts on this forum. I don't think this is an isolated problem. There must be a common thread.

Side topic: Where did all the servers go? I only see about half compared to two weeks ago. I only have ranked, punk, and S, M and L selected as search criteria. Oh and same mod. I suspect the mod. What is everyone else playing POE?

Hey Roomba ,

Same here ! I will try tonight this :

-Removed any trace of the game manually and Reinstalled full game with SF and 1.4 patch
-Manually install PB software from their website: http://www.punkbuster.com/index.php?page=dl-bf2.php
-Updated my router firmware
-Made sure my firewall was allowing access for bf2.exe
-Edited my C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\host file to add this line to it which is PB's address "64.251.14.78 www.evenbalance.com"  It uses this to authenticate your software with their server.
-Did not waste time defragging again, that does nothing
-Did not mess with any of my virus software, that does nothing to and is a waste of time, but turn it off if you dont believe me.
-Switch type of connection in the in-game options menu from T1/LAN to Cable/DSL
-And finally and i did this last after everything else was done and had already loaded into BF a few times, so there was a bunch of data in the cache folder; Delete contents of video cache folder
C:\Documents and Settings\"my login"\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache
-After all that was done and i actually loaded into a server and i set all of these settings for PB
1. PB_LAN 1 - turns off PB automatic update.  You will have to manually update PB as new stuff is pushed out.  I dont know if this was necessary but i did it anyway.  It only take a minute to manually update PB
2. PB_LogToFile 1 - Logs all problems with PB so you can see whats going on
3. PB_sleep 500 - Puts the longest amount of delay for PB checking your hard drive
4. PB_writecfg - saves all of this to the cfg file so you dont have to do it everytime you load into a new server.

I will let you know whats the result but I think that the problem is patch 1.4 !!!

I just saw this one the other forum I was subscribing to. I am going to try some of the quick things reveolving around PB. I really don't want to uninstall the game. But if I have to I will.

Thanks for the heads up.

well, this could be you i guess....my modem went bad on me recently, and i thought it was bf2...if you can download large files from a fast server (i.e. nvidia gaming/fileplanet) without timing out, then this is not your issue, but i got thousands of errors in my modem log when i went above a certain d/l speed...another easy fix that worked for a while is change the in-game setting from T1 to cable, as the cable setting uses less packets and you wont really notice any difference.

Hello Gamers,

Oupppps andf apollogize to Mr.Maverick.MDK !!!!
In stress situation I forgot his work !!

I forgot to mentionned that all this stuff was from him !  Great regrets for that !!!
For information , here is what I did last night and it works now:

-Removed any trace of the game manually and Reinstalled full game with SF and 1.4 patch
-Updated my router firmware
-Made sure my firewall was allowing access for bf2.exe
-Switch type of connection in the in-game options menu from T1/LAN to Cable/DSL
-Delete contents of video cache folder
C:\Documents and Settings\"my login"\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache
On the console :
- PB_sleep 500 - Puts the longest amount of delay for PB checking your hard drive
- PB_writecfg - saves all of this to the cfg file so you dont have to do it everytime you load into a new server.

With these things I have no more lag
That's why I said that the problem is patch 1.4 and no Punkbuster because without any modification on PB, no problem !!
To increase the sleep mode at 500 is just safer.

so in conclusion , I thanx a lot Mr.Maverick.MDK -   +1 karma for him

See you in game

i had a few probs with the games since 1.4 so i wiped the game completely, and re-installed all thru safe mode including patches, takes alittle longer but i think its been worth it, also i hear a few ppl are having hang up probs, i thought it was a grafical issue but it turns out that my sound card is crap witch i new, so i opend DXDIAG in (START-RUN-dxdiag) and in the sound options set my sound acceleration to medium or no accelaration and it seems to of fix all my lock ups, i do still however get D-T wen i play a 24/7 map and i am switched teams cant understand why, and idies would be appricated

Hello all,

I have the same p^roblem again , without any solution.
I have reinstall BF2 till the patch 1.3 and it's better.
I have mailed to EA games and here is the answer :

"Hello,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts. I’m sorry for the difficulty that you are having with the game.

We found that users with VIA motherboard chipsets for AMD and Intel CPUs will encounter crash or installation issues with the game. There is an update you'll want to get from VIA that addresses a few known issues with their systems in particular causing lockups and other issues in several high end games.

This page has info that you should look into as a possible resolution to your issue. If you should run into any trouble with installing these drivers, VIA has an Install guide and a Help Forum which should be able to guide you through the installation.

http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=2

Not having the correct VIA drivers could manifest itself in the form of a "Serious Error" message, and/or a blue screen crash.

Connection issues typically are caused by one or more ports being blocked by a firewall, router, or even your Internet Service Provider to help maintain security.  These ports are the doorways used to send and recieve information between your computer and the server.  You must configure your router/firewall to have the game's ports open in order to connect to the servers properly.

The ports for Battlefield 2 are as follows:

UDP ports:

27900
29900
29910
27901
55123
55124
55215
16567
1500-4999
18060

TCP ports:

80
29900
29901
29920
28910
4711
18060

You may also need to have your Internet Service Provider open these ports for you.  For help configuring a firewall or router you may need to refer to the manufacturer.

GameSpy has it's own requirements for ports.  You may want to check the requirements listed in the Working Around the Firewall/Proxy section of their site.

Click here to go to GameSpy's firewall page.

Should you require further assistance about this or any Electronic Arts games in the future please visit our website and review our extensive Self Help knowledgebase (http://support.ea.com)

EA Tech Support """""

I had already update my VIA so it's not that.
Tonight , I'm going ot ahave a view on the site for the "connection trouble shooting".

I hope all  of this help you  because for me , not ! ( for the moment )
I will you know !

See you

Hey dude,

Does the install work for other things as well? I cannot install/uninstall other stuff. BF2 reinstalled without probs. I cannot get my ATI Catalyst to install to update a new driver. I get an iKernel error. Just curious.

Thanks man! I appreciate the help. I will check the site out for the new driver! Here is my canned reply I am posting on the various 'connection' related threads:

To all,

My connection problems were related to my cable modem. I had it replaced and viola! I played for an hour or so last night. Minor hiccups when the map loaded but that was there before.  It was a 44 player (?) map and it was loaded with people. It was good to be back.

So if you have tried everything else, call your ISP. I will let you know if I have any problems.
