the less fancy bits there are, the less there is to fuck up. why do we NEED 16 different types of jeep when all we use it for is sprinting across a map?

Well in bf2 there's the jeep that carries 3 people, then the bigger truck(?) that carries 4 people. Both have great pros and cons to them. Does bf2142 have this??^KoB^Buckles wrote:

To a certain extent, it's fine to "keep it simple stupid." But to another extent, if it's done right, I rather complexity added to a game. It just adds depth for me. But it all depends:)

i don't need 7 types of light transport to kill people. I agree that a bit of diversity is great, but you know they're gunna wait to make sure the game works fine, then bring in patches to add shit that makes the game unstable or just plain doesn't work

"2142 will be supported for years to come, especially since they will have added revenue from ingame adverts. "
Or they'll announce BF3 in 8 months.
I'm honestly not looking to put my money in for 2142. If someone gets it for me then I will play it. But after all the massacring that EA/DICE did to BF2, finally stabbing it in the heart with the 1.4 patch and ceasing any more updates for it (or so I've heard)... I'm reluctant to give those pigs at EA more money.
Don't give me that "but theyre teh corporation and have to make teh monies!!!11" bullshit. They seemed to go on fine with a "for the community" approach with BF1942. BF2 was gonna be even more impressive when it was revealed at E3 (later neutered by EA rushing DICE). Then they just went to hell when they seemed to toss out their DICE NY (the desert cobmat guys) team and EA slowly began doing more. Now DICE is just another puppet of EA, lost to the world of "must get money". Valve seems to do fine with giving free content, doing regular updates, and keeping the game as bug-free as possible. They try to fix problems ASAP rather than take 3 months like DICE. Why can't DICE do this? It obviously works for Valve!

Thanks for the history lesson, got any sources to back up your information? I welcome any FACTS you might have on this topic.ExecutionerStyle wrote:

NOT saying that makes bf2 a better game!!! I heard bf2142's FAVs are faster than bf2's. That'll be sweet:)
I would like to add my opinion about this whole "nerf to balance" issue about bf2142. I'm only going on what i've read/heard, and I haven't played the game, so remember that:p
Well...you don't need to nerf to balance a game!! Why combine the jet into the heli because the jet can rape? I've put in 264 hours into bf2, and yes, that's not a LOT, but no, I haven't played in many games where the airplanes would rape us. If they were raping us, however, we'd bring it to the attention of our own pilots, then lastly, to the whole team, so we can do something about it. Of course, there were the rare exceptions, when enemy pilots had such impeccable timing and skill that they would stop any and everything from opposing them. I never complained though, I just looked upon them with admiration.
Bf2 has this sort of rock-paper-scissors+pyramid/food chain balancing scheme, so while everything can be counter balanced rock-paper-scissors style, certain things at the top of the pyrimid WILL have superiority over others. I think that's pretty l33t, even if I get raped every now and then, lol:)
But remember, I aint no bf2 fanatic/general, or a video game reviewer or professional. So take what I say with a lil grain of salt:PP
One thing that I think makes bf2 l33t is the pure fact of how e-fast the jet travels. It just looks soo phat imo. Why oh why nerf that:/
But in all, I'm not predicting bf2142 will suck bf2's ass, for any reason. Just imo's

There is no top of the pyramid in rock paper scissors; but let's say there is. Let's call it "dynamite". If everyone always wants to use dynamite, then there are really only two kinds of players. People who know about dynamite, and people who don't. Let's make two catagories for them. Lets call the people who know about dynamite "1337" and the one's that don't "noobs".lendll wrote:

On any given air map you might have 4 1337 players (who get massive points doing minimal work for maximum potential) and then you have 60 noobs, all scrambling for scaps, flag capture assists, and an occasional kill.
How is this at all good for any game? A top tier shouldn't ever exist. It creates problems for the balance of any game.
I believe Dice, whether intionally or unintentionally, combined the two ways of gameplay balancing.P581 wrote:

I also play on this server called FULLCONTACTWAR squad/voip only. Generally, the skill level(=players') there is higher than everywhere else I've been, so the game seems pretty balanced. Imo:)
However, I've also come to realize that playing on one server can give, in a sense, a total different playing experience than playing on another.
I personally believe that in order to see if a game is balanced, it takes years of play. That way, everybody *thoroughly* learns the in's and out's of the game(and even then, the gameplay is evolving). I've seen this in q2. The railgun in that game is top tier. 5-6 years ago there would be ppl who would exploit the shit out of it, and be untouchable. Nowadays , though, everybody has learned to compensate for its power using seemingly "inferior" means to an end. This can only take experience, which is given with time.
This may or may not apply too strictly to bf2, though:)

good points there about needing time to balance games. Also good call on different servers being different experiences. Just to emphasize the point, I played on this server (I only play on FF=0 servers) called rubber ducky. It was 64 players on a 16 player map. No switching teams, it was just amazing how many people continued to play even though they were getting their asses handed to them over and over. I would say one team had several players with 100+ points, and the other team had no one over 20 points. That is certainly an experience much different than say playing on a voip only server.lendll wrote:

I didn't feel like going to the full post message box you sack of shit.
"Waa waa waa waa. That's all I could hear, were you trying to say something? There was some baby crying because his mom plopped the tit out from his mouth."
Your psychotherapist called, he said you need a higher dosage of Wellbutrin. Evidently it hasn't stopped you from hearing things.

VALVe is bankrupt? Is that why www.steampowered.com still works? Is that why HL2 Episode 2 is coming out? Is that why they have very good support for their games?
One last question: how much did EA pay you to say all that?

Nobody here has enough experience of BF2142 as a retail game to make any kind of comparisons. All we've had is a beta people. If you're gonna condemn a game on the strength of one game mode on one map, in an unfinished game then simply don't play 2142 when it's released.
