Same story as Vietnam . US wasnt pwned in 'nam , they just leave because people didnt accepted that war . Same with Afghanistan , noone understands the reason of that war ( which was exactly to stop & cut drug lines to USSR from Afghanistan , Pakistan & so on ) and everybody is thinking that USSR lost that war .

the moral : when you fight against whole nation , you cannot win the war . The only way is to kill them all .

funny thing is you can see a crap load of their stuff on satellite images, (google earth), i've seen 50+ SU's multiple kinds, 30-37's, all grouped together in one small base.

My friends dad fought in Afaganistan for the Russian army. He said that his dad and his uncle were in the same unit. They were walking along some road when a mortar went off right next to them. The uncle was on the floor covered in guts. Turns out a pig was right next to them and the mortar shell hit the pig lol.

The Afghans didnt beat the Russians and the Viets didnt beat the USA. The Afghans lost 1 million men while the Russians only lost 15 thousand. America lost 50 thousand but managed to kill 2 million NVA and VietCong. The end result may not have been favorable but bot hRussia and the UNited States left on terms favorable becuase the enemy knew they had been beaten and what they wanted more than anything else was these people that were kicking the shit out of them to leave.

Also in both situations it was public opinion that led to withdrawal. And in both sitations the enemy was dominated and resorted to guerilla tactics that while may have had success they were still outmatched and browbeat at will.
