You know, its not cool when your mom deletes your password to your user account, looks through all your shit, and the discovers pictures of your past ex-g/fs naked. That's just something you dont want your mom seein.

I need a program or some means of password protecting or locking a folder on windowx xp home. I have searched for such a program, but cannot find one. If this is not possible, I am open to other solutions to make my files more... private.

i knew that was coming. I am past CD's for storing files. Praise the USB flash drive and the extra free one I am getting with  BF2142. No kidding burn them to a cd, have already thought of that. But I want to password protect almost all my stuff, so you can just see my desktop and such. No one needs to be lookin in my shit.

AFAIK, there is no way to password protect folders in XP. Only thing I can think of is to create a new password protected user, and then stick all your stuff in a non shared folder.

I don't know about programs. Theres a good chance there is one, but I haven't heard of it.

I found this:
you need a program called Folder Lock.

Folder Lock is a fast file-security program that can password-protect, lock, hide and encrypt any number of files, folders, drives, pictures and documents in seconds. Protected files are hidden, undeletable, inaccessible and highly secure. *Caution scan for viruses.

this is the link: http://www.torrentspy.com/download.asp?id=740910            and you need azureus to download. or other bittorrent programs.

(never tried it myself)

hahaha - sorry but that is pretty funny. anyways why the hell is your mom so nosy? secondly why is she the administrator? simplest way to rectify this is to make yourself the admin and then demote her back to being a normal user. also there a couple of things you can do - http://freeware.intrastar.net/encryption.htm - this website will give you a list of some good options. you may have to pay to get a good program. i am not sure. i keep most of my sensitive data on a usb which is password protected. i know it is probably not the safest thing, but i don't have anything that personal on it. also if you do have to pay for one of those programs check out www.serials.ws because they may have a crack for them.

Just call all your porn folders "Not porn"... this way if someone spies on your computer they won't open those cause they will know that there's nothing interesting in there. Duh!

Alternativelly you can buy an extra HD and save your stuff in there. Then once you want to hide it, you just disable it in device manager and you're set to go.

Or you could move out, or maybe buy you're own computer?

the truecrypt looks cool. I think I will encrypt a flash drive. The only problem is I couldnt use the drive at school since none of the students have administrator priledges. Owell, I guess you cant have it all.

If you add/remove you mom from the security tab in the folder properties, this should keep her out.

This is the way to go.

Start | Control Panel | User Accounts
Create a password-protected account with Admin privileges
Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings
Right-click on your private account
Left-click on Sharing and Security
Click on the Security tab
Click on your Mom's account and then choose Deny next to Full Control

This will disallow your Mom's account from accessing anything you put into C:\Documents and Settings\YourPrivateAccountUsername          Anytime she tries to access it, she will get an "Access is denied." message.

Hope this helps.  Btw, since I tried to help, can you send me some pics of your gf?

If your mum knows enough to get around that, then you're screwed!
