I have yet to get the AA to work. Dead lock on a hovering chopper and AA still shoots off to one side of the screen. Forget even trying to hit a plane.

All I know is the only thing my teams AA shoots down is ME! What is up with that! Over and over and over again.

Since they have been changing the game-logic with every patch - I agree on this fix, AA sucks now more than ever.

The AA is severly retarded.  The percentage or chance on hitting a target should be based on how fast the vehicle is moving and if it is something hovering and not moving at all, that should be a 100% target hit.  I just do not get in those things anymore because you fire and miss with the AA and those flyboys will be back to hammer a McBomb right in your griLL and that just sucks.

FIX THE AA!!!!

I always hit with the AA. The fact is that you need to calculate the distance.

1) Always fire when the missile is locked on target.

2) Estimate how long the missile will take.

3) Fire both missiiles for a quick reload, even if you can kill it with one missile.

4) The missile will always catch up with the aircraft or helo, let it pass AND then aim at it's thrusters to maximise the missile's heat seeking chance.

5) It will a fair chance of hitting if the Stingers get half way between you and the jet or helo before disappearing out of range.

The AA works just fine. But the netcode doesn't.

AA is fine once you learn how to use it.

I have to say that I cannot agree with those who seem to think that the AA logic is not broken at all.

Too many times I have had good tone on target, great aspect (looking right up the tailpipe) and still had my missile immediately head for a friendly aircraft at launch.

I spend the bulk of my time flying and I have absolutely no fear of AA. As long as I am willing to break off pursuit of an enemy aircraft, I can evade any AA that is fired at me. The only exception to this might be when flying the two seater fighter bomber - but I have pretty good luck there too.

Having said that, I will agree that there are techniques that can really improve your odds of hitting what you are shooting at. I think many have been covered, but let me hit my main guidelines for good AA practices:

1. If its worth firing one missle, its worth firing two. Your usually better off letting two fly and getting reloaded than just shooting one and waiting for another shot.
2. In your mind, imagine a pie wedge coming out of the back of what your shooting at - is should a 45 degree arc coming out of the rear of the aircraft. You want to be inside that arc when you fire.
3. Wait for the tone! Don't just fire randomly. Wait for a good tone.
4. Anticipate the movements of your enemy. If the aircraft your shooting at has just shown you its tail and is speeding away, thats a good time to shoot. If they are in the middle of a bank and are likely to only show you their tail for a moment, might not be a good shot - this would depend on the range. Is your target going to complete their turn before the missle can reach them? If so, its more likely to be a miss.
5. Remember - EVERY miss is a potential teamkill!
6. The slower your target is moving, the more likely you are to kill him. If an enemy aircraft goes ballistic (straight up), fire as soon as your locked. They are going to slow down a whole lot at the top of that flight path and give the missle a really good chance to hit before they start their trip back down from altitude. Of course, ,this also applies to pilots using the slow down technique to kill helos and other slow moving targets. Many pilots use this when approaching the carrier to get targets on the deck - be ready for that.
7. When using AA on the carrier, we wary of the dart killer aircraft. These are guys that use the onscreen flag of the carrier as a guideline to come straight at the rear AA of the carrier. Because they are coming straight at you, they are a much smaller target. Always be ready for that small speck of an aircraft coming toward you and use the gatling gun. Get good at using the gat gun on these guys. If you get a lock, go ahead and launch, but its the guns that will make the difference here. Everyone uses the rear AA gun - use the foredeck AA gun and your LOS may be blocked by the tower, but your far less likely to be hit by enemy aircraft.

Pay attention to what happens when you shoot at an enemy. Following these guidelines will be a good start, but as you pay attention to what happens, your going to get a better feel for what makes a good shot.

Good Luck

the one thing i cant understand is that when u are on the reall aa on the essex. how is it u can fire all 8 missiles at an enemy plane and it survives but u always manage to get a 1 hit kill when it somehow flys all the way across the map and hits your teams plane or chopper.

I dont have much of a problem with the AA in this game - it's weak and hard to use, but I've seen some people who are crazy good with it, which makes me think I just need practice.  My only problem is that the choppers and jets chaff system should not reload.  My belief is you should get one or two chaff drops before you're empty, an then you have to reload (such as you would bombs or rockets).  Also, it should take longer for the chaff to respawn for a helo/jet.  If you've ever takent he time tor eally look, the chaff respawns just as fast as you can reload the stinger missile - kinda making AA useless.

I would have to disagree saying the AA are Ok.  They are just not working correctly.  I use them and practice in empty servers while my buddz fly around.  I actually talked to a person with EA and he told me that supposedly they know something is wrong with it, the problem is they dont know how they are going to fix it.  If they make it too powerful they could completely knock out the flying part of the game and that is a big part of why some people buy this game.  Balance is very important in this game.  It does need to be realistic, but realistically in real combat situation those fighters are not going to strife the same target three or four times.  And in the real world there is no such thing as a respawn.

I feel bad for trying to figuring out the balancing, but at the same time, the AA is pretty useless for anything other than getting a TK.

i hate using AA now...too many times have i had good tone and great aspect and yet the missile seems to find my team mate.  i have also noticed this in the backseat of the bomber...sometimes i will have lock and i launch the TV missile...i keep the laser pointer on target but the missile goes to some other target.
