umm yes a 10 minute recording @ half size / 30 fps = 3.9GB

Tough shit, it's uncompressed. Nothing you can do if your HDD is too small.

Yes, with various programs (e.g. Windows Media Encoder) you can reduce the size AFTER it is captured.

Download Virtual Dub: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/virt … p?download

It's free and you can encode and reencode until you are happy with the results.
When you use DivX or Xvid as video codec and maybe resize the video(or use half-size in Fraps in the first place) you can greatly reduce the size of the video.

you also could get a 3g converter (as in cell phone vid's) which are really small 760Mb = 80Mb

Use full processing mode for video and audio, select proper codecs(I'd suggest DivX and mp3) and choose a proper bitrate for the videocodec.

i compress all my fraps vids using winavi converter 7.7.
its quick & very easy to use, couple of clicks & jobs done with high quality end results in either avi or wmv with pretty small file sizes.

for slapping movies together i compress the clips with winavi, then adobe premiere pro 2 for making the movie, then virtualdubmod to shave an extra few meg off the finished movie.

I've only found a french tutorial, but the screenshots are self-explanatory.
http://www.trad-fr.com/Tuto/Encoder_VD.htm

You open your file, choose in the videotab->FULL COMPRESSION MODE,select and configure the codec under COMPRESSION,in the audiotab you choose ->FULL COMPRESSION MODE and select and audio codec and configure it under COMPRESSION and then start the re-encoding process - tada.

When the file is bigger than your original one you made one of the typical vDub-noobs' mistake - you didn't select a codec and made a direct stream copy.
vDub is pretty easy to use, once you get the hang of it.
