As far as i know it was Iran that had the whole contest about drawing a cartoon which offends the jews, not the Christians. And they are called Iranians not arabs. A lot of Muslims around the world said they should not do it. SO its only a small number of people.

ITS WAS THE FUKIN POPE (not offence to the pope in any way) that said it. Its not the same coming from the pope as it is coming from some guy down the pub.

That's the thing (concerning israel). You can't blame an entire race for something that a country has done. You know what, if they simply hated israelis, I wouldn't care. But since they take it out on an ENTIRE race, no, it's predjudice and simply that. We can't make fun of and criticize the muslim religion, but it's okay for them to teach their kids to hate all jews? Yeah. Totally.

Israel does not equal every jew in the world.

Anyway there is noting offence about "infidal" all it means is:.

a person who does not believe in your particular religion, denomination or religious tradition. Similar to "Unbeliever" but more of a "snarl" word.

Before I became an athiest I was jewish, and the main rabbi at the temple I went to always used to pray for peace in israel with palestineans, and said that the school children would do the same (when he lived there). You may think they're preaching hate, but that's not true, they do infact just want to live in peace with the palestineans. but now we're getting off topic, let's stay on the topic of this.

I think it was a very bad idea saying this after the whole cartoon thing, and in general, remarks about such a sensitive subject should have been left for another day. I disagree with the Pope but he has a point. Althought the vast majority of muslims are peace loving people there are still some problems. Women are treated as second class citizens, foreigners are kidnapped and killed routinely, and hate is preached to the youth under the cover of religion. Most of the middle east is in such a sorry state that all these people can do is hate others for their prediciment instead of trying to help themselves. In Iraq for example, they want Americans out butthey could have worked with America and helped construct a democracy and we could have left long ago but instead they chose to fight and because of that we are still there.

So OK, I looked into just a bit because I got curious.  I'm rather agnostic so this is just an outside look.

After the Pope quoted the emperor, he basically said (and I'm paraphrasing) "Damn, that's harsh."
He uses the word "brusque" but it means the same thing.
That doesn't sound to me like he is pointing a finger at anyones religion. 
He is actually defending it. (Kind of)  He is referring to the comments made by Paleologos II.

This entire scenario is some idiot using PART of what someone said to cause grief and spread hatred.
Don't buy into it.

It's unfortunate that the Muslims are so intolerant and they misinterpret the Pope's speech. I really think its that intolerance that makes them ignore all rational faculties and lash out at the slightest semblance of conflict. You could perpetuate it by misconstruing it yourself. It's quite obvious that the Pope was simply giving a history lesson including that quote. If you quote Hitler does that make you a Nazi all of a sudden ? i hate isreal for many reasons. Because signing bombs is what they do (the kids).
