I agree that the current pope was a bad choice. This statement should largely confirm that. Muslims are not only a pious people, but a very industrious one aswell. They have made incredible advances in science. Stuff that the catholic church should ENVY, not dismiss.... Look at history, and you will find that during the "dark ages", or roughly the 1-2 centuries after Mohammed brought islam to the muslim world, they flourished, while the catholic world was sinking into blissful ignorance (and had been for a couple of hundred years !).

To state that anything related to islam is "evil" is pure ignorance and reeks of unjustified prejudice.

However, the choice of a new pope is up to the college of cardinals, and while the last pope had one of the longest reigns ever, that did NOT prevent the sitting cardinals from scheming to find out who they would support. Throughout history, it has rarely been the most pieous, deserving or devoted cardinal who got the job. That's because when you reach the "rank" of cardinal, you're more a politician than a priest anyway. Anyone believing otherwise has been watching too many hollywood movies.

I cannot begin to imagine what kind of favors the current pope would have to offer to get elected. but IMO he was a bad choice. To keep the catholic church, and indeed the entire christian faith on track with todays society, we really needed a REFORMER, not a bigotted, bald bumblebrain with no ties to the real world. I can only hope, and pray, that the current pope wont last long enough to do any lasting damage, and that the next one is someone who will attempt to unite the christian faith, embrace the faith of others, and try to make the world a better, safer place with less religious tension. And try to reform christianity into something that has a closer tie to the modern world. I know that's a lofty goal... Some might go as far as to call it a mere fantasy, but I like to be the optimist once in a while.

I consider myself a christian, and while not as devout as many, I respect other people, regardless of their religion, race, color or creed. At least as long as their moral compass is not far off track from my own. And I have yet to meet a non fundamentalist (christian OR muslim) who was. So I would NEVER consider muslims inherently evil. Evil is learned, not born.

My best advice for the current pope would be to:
1) Read the bible
2) Understand what it says, or repeat 1 untill such enlightment has been reached.
3) Read the Koran (Quran, however you like to spell it)
4) Understand what it says, or repeat 3 untill such enlightment has been reached.
5) Tell me where the two differs on moral principles.
6) Upon understanding my point, apologizing to the world for a poorly chosen comment not meant to insult a large part of the world.

I'd be pretty pissed (and AM) everytime an Imam says that white people/christians/westerners are the devil, or crap like that. I see no reason to show the world that our pope is no better than a warmongering imam who calls for holy war. In fact I see every reason to show the EXACT opposite (lead by example and all that crap)

when the only spokespeople for the religion are the ones commiting some of the most grievous injustices in recent history, it's fairly well justified, I'm quite familiar with the history of both sects, and don't deny that catholicism hasn't had it's ugly past, it's Islam's ugly present that concerns me

If Islam wants to survive they need to grow up.

THose pictures are messed up. but its the same as that preacher with the signs "god hates fags". its just a minority (a large on at that) of the MUslim community that acts this way.pathetic really. I do not beleive one bit in christianity, or Islam. but repsect them both.  Rodney King put it best "cant we all just get along?"

lol, are you kidding? I've seen so much racism towards jews just for being jews and christians for not being muslims for so long. It's not that they (Palestineans in this case) don't like Israelis, they don't like the entire jewish race. As far as i know it was Iran that had the whole contest about drawing a cartoon which offends the jews, not the Christians. And they are called Iranians not arabs. A lot of Muslims around the world said they should not do it. SO its only a small number of people.

I'm not talking about that. ALL of those extremists hate Christians, Catholics, Jews, Buddhists, etc. They'll destroy a Buddha statue and in fact have destroyed them for the sole fact that it isn't their religion.
