Hi guys,

I recently updated to 1.4 using the full patch, and got the old Black Screen and Crash to Desktop thing happening.  Turns out I had done one of those NVidia related memory tweaks by renaming the BF2 exe.  Since the shortcuts use the renamed exe, it was still at 1.3 while the rest of the installation was updated.

My fix was to delete the old BF2.exe, and rename the new one the same as I had it in my shortcuts.

Problem solved.

YAY!!!


I hope that helps all you guys who're getting pissed 'cause your patch "doesn't work".

Now if only they'd added a flamethrower to the kits, I'd really be in BF2 heaven  ;-)

I CTD today...and my .exe was never renamed.

Yup. Me and my friend having this problem too.

Compared to 1.3, crashes to desktop are now random.

I got a CTD earlier, in act, probably not more than 1/2 an hour ago.I'mhoping it was just me crashing, and not the server, as I got promotion the same round.

I still ctd at least once every round and usually more often, its been happening since 1.3 and absolutely nothing has helped, before 1.3 it was a great pleasure to play but rejoining all the time now is getting tedious. For a while it seemed if setting my affinity for bf2.exe to only 1 cpu helped but that doesnt work now 1.4 is out unfortunately so I'll have to keep looking for fixes

Are you on an AMD x2? If so, get the X2 patch and hotfix from www.amd.com

Nah, thx for the help but im on a p4 3.4, not the best gaming cpu but should do fine tbh, broke a new record this evening, 21 ctd's in 1 game(yes i was getting fed up but i was wondering how many i could get in 1 go, dice should make an award for that too), so far nothing I tried helped and any other game i have works fine on my pc so im inclined to say its bf2...
