Hiya folks, I need heeeellllllpppppppp!

I've just had delivered my BT Home Hub upto 8MB Broadband. (I previously had 2.2MB ADSL).

When I'm downloading files / playing online everthing seems fine. If I go onto a speedtest website I get a download speed of upto 6.5MB and an upload speed of 330 KB/S.

However, when I use BitTorrent / BitTornado to download files I get a maxiumum download of 31 KB/s!

Any ideas?

PS - i've disabled the firewall on the hub and windows firewall is configured to allow the client software.  also, when i was downloading on my old modem a few days ago i was hitting 100 - 200 kb/s... so it has to be this new home hub right?  (which may be leaving via the nearest window if i don't get it working soon...)

It depends on what you're trying to download, and with torrent files it depens on your share ratio as well.  Torrents aren't dedicated links like regular downloads, you're probably just getting connections to users that aren't uploading that fast.

With the home hub - I know someone that works/is working on that project at BT, he said that it has too many problems and should never have been released for sale.  You're not alone in having a dodgy connection with one - a friend of mine got one a few weeks ago and his connection drops all the time.  I believe the home hub updates itself, so with a bit of luck BT will get a fix for it soon.

what u gotta do is work out what 10 percent ( or so) of ur upload speed is. then change the max upload on ur torrent client options. if u leave it on unlimited its slow as a mofo.  ive managed to get d/l speeds of upto 250kb since then.  altho it obv depends on peers/seeds etc.

edit: google bitcomet help or something similar.  doesnt matter what client ur using, theoretically its roughly the same shit with a different name as far as optimising goes for the most part

Does my poor download speed have anything to do with 'Port Forwarding'?

You have to go into the setup on the HUB and activate  application...  called  ABC..... stands for Any Bittorrent Client....   this opens the correct ports on the HUB ...but it also allows BT to Throttle you Torrent speeds in Peak times
