I ordered my new rig and included the 36Gb Raptor. This is the only disk and all the components are new so I need to power on and put windows XP on it. Do I need to install some driver for the disk before I can use it?

You might need to supply a driver at startup (like when installing to a scsi drive), it will prompt yout to press f6 during install of xp ...

I'm saying this 99% assuming: this is a SATA drive correct?

Wierd how windows still doesn't pick these up.

i've heard some mobo's require you to install drivers when you load win xp like the other poster stated.

my dfi doesn't require this just plug it in an install like you would any other drive.

Yeah its funny because some people i talk to are under te impression that installing Linux is some archaic (sp) process ... but when you do a Linux (myexp=fedora) it detects everything ... even the paint color of the case.

I think ur partially correct ... my last upgrade i did an install and windows could see the sata drive ... and the bios listed them out explicitly in the boot order

I have the raptor on mine......you need a floppy drive......a blank floppy.... and your MB Driver disk ...... copy the SATA drivers onto a floppy disk...they are on the MB disk somewhere.... Set your system to boot off CD .....Put your XP CD in ...turn on...wait until you see the message Press F6 if you require to load 3rd party drivers....(or similar ).. then press F6 put the floppy in and follow the on screen prompts....it will load the drivers off the floppy... and then the rest is a normal install ..( well as normal as MS allows ) the Raptor is a brilliant drive ...dont clog it up...Just the Op sys and a Couple of games you play regular and its faster than a fast thing going very fast!!

Hope this helps...

mobo is an Asus M2N32SLI-Deluxe... hope it will cooperate cause I'd very much like to experience a smooth install. anyway, in case I am not promted to F6 for 3rd party drivers it should be fine, right?

and no, I got the 36gig disk cause Im partitioning 10Gb for Xp and the rest for a couple of games. my old computer willb stand aside the new one for all the bs music, mail and stuff.

thanks to all for your feedback!
