I got this case with my first computer as a birthday present a long time ago, im wandering if it a good case for cooling? It offers 3 fan slots and I dont know if thats good or bad.

I was wandering if there is some DIY or some tips to keep it cooler or drill some holes etc.

or if someone could reccomend a good and better case for around £50

thanks

I've always been partial to thermaltake.  Namely, their armor case is stellar for cooling and modularity.

I like the Antec Sonota II ... not expensive .. mid tower ... quiet (large fan, grommeted drive screws) .. 120mm in back and one more can be put in front of drive cage (side mounts drives), although i ve not needed it.

That's a good case.

looking at that case, it seems like a solid choice.  It's a matter of preference as far as the door goes, but it seems to have the right fans in the right places.

Depending on what amount you want to spend. Thermaltake is excellent.
I use a Thermaltake Tai Chi liquid cooled case(approx $500AU) with a Antec 550W server psu(approx $160AU).

That case is a nice choice though. I built a pc for a friend with that case. Does the job nicely.

The amount of cooling you need is proportional to the hardware you've got in the case. Also, the worse airflow you've got, the more fans you need to do a decent job. 3 fans can be enough, just depends on the conditions in there. Keep the front and side fans as intake and the back as exhaust and it's possible that'll be good enough.

If you want to go the do it yourself route, you could always cut a hole in the top for a fan and make that exhaust.

Why dont u build up a normal looking PC tower and spend the extra money on whats inside like a bigger CPU, SLI video cards etc?

Some cases mentioned are normal .. no point in strapping high dollar wares to a rattling shitbox

ewwww...i am extremely partial to lian li cases. if in fact you ever get a girl to come back to your house and then by the grace of god get her to come into your room if she saw that computer case she would know right away your total geek and your chances of getting laid would be ruined. just go with a nice plain jane looking case that is roomy and good airflow.

I've got one, I'll attest to it's excellence. Big, sturdy, good airflow, clean lines, and you still might get laid.

here is what you should be looking for, check the diagram at the bottom of the page showing how air flows through the case. most good cases will be set up something like this. also i have this case and it helps me get laid all the time.

as for the OPs case, thats not a thermaltake case as most ppl for some reason are saying, looks like a knockoff of a Tt Xaser

Dude... It TOTALLY depends on what you want to use your case for, and what kind of cooling you need. The case has plenty of room for a duct, so you can easily use very powerful fans, andoerclock a bit if that's what you need. No need to spend £50 on a new case if what you have will do the job, and you're happy with it.

It all comes down to airflow for component cooling. You have to remember a couple of things:

1) Air moves where it's EASY to move to. So while small holes in the case will draw some air (screwholes, USB ports and the likes), then it's not a lot compared to the dedicated "holes" where you place a chasis fan, or have a major outlet/intake.
2) You dont need more than one or two chasis fans, TOPS, if you cool your components correctly. In fact, if you dont OC, the PSU fan is usually enough for memory and HDD
3) Major components that need cooling are: CPU, GPU, HDD, northbridge, any high voltage converter, and if you OC, sometimes your memory.
4) Get a thermal image of your PC while running if you have doubts about what gets hot.
5) Use cableeater and round cables to minimize the "bloackage". Add pieces of cardboard to force air to move through certain paths in your case (not nice to look at with a window, but it'll work with anything that looks fancy also).

A DIY cooling is not that hard, a little tape and come plastic parts and you're good to go. I use velcro myself, but that's because I move stuff around in my casing a LOT, and I dont like to get sticky fingers from working with tape I need to remove in a couple of weeks anyway.

wasn't implying that his selection was a thermaltake, just making a recommendation on what type of case I would go with.

Fans are rated by cfm and dba's ( air pushed and noise level) An inexpensive cooling upgrade would be to keep the case you have, and go with fans that have higher cfm's.  Be carefull with fans that have too high dba (ex. Vantec Tornado) when this baby is on I can't hear the vacuum its so fooking loud.  I would just hate to see someone dump money into a case when wheat they could really use is more ram or a better video card.  Ignore the poster who thinks that his comp case is directly proportianal to his getting laid. The probablitity of a direct correlation with regard to that, well the earth has a better chance of hitting the moon....

There are also cooling units that take up a PCI slot.  This little wonder is $10 (USD):

Your case is fine.  Follow the advice of "bigger" fans and you'll be cool.

All puns intended.

3 fans seems okay, it got a 10/10 in reviews, though, so you should be good.

Antec P180 FTW

I have one and wouldn't swap it for anything else.
