read this...or atleast enough to understand it -

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060912/ap_ … /iran_iraq

For those of you who decline to read a run down of the topic:

Iraqi prime minister visited Iran recently in an attempt to basically  heal scars from their 1980-88 war, as well as getting economical help from Iran to help get Iraqs oil industry going again.  Iraq also is hoping to make some kind of deal about power and water with them also.  The article says the 2 leaders are pretty good allies.  Iraq has also reached out to Syria for "supplies" says the article.  The only thing that came up about the U.S./Iran issue in that article is that the Iranian president mentioned that he "hoped unwanted guests would leave the region" (hinting at the U.S. obviously).  They also talked about securing the Iraq/Iran border to keep Al-Qaeda from illegally crossing.  Iran denies having any association with Al-Qaeda, or harboring them.

Do you think if Iraq makes good enough buddies with Iran, Syria and other countries in the area, the U.S. may become better allies with them as well?

I'd say it could happen, but I doubt it. Though I really doubt that we could be able to become allies with Iran...with all of their nuke talk and anti-us propoganda they use on Iranian TV, it just doesn't seem possible.

hmm....only on here for over an hour and only 1 reply.  I figured more people would have some kind of input on it.

It is POSSIBLE, but unlikely...what I can see happening is Iraq getting more buddied up with Iran as US influence is reduced...then you'll have three Shi-ite states in one big block...not good for Israel.

Of course, it could also lead to a bit of peace...

Uh, not likely.  If anything, Syrian/Iranian aid will be dependent upon the US buggering off (and that is technical terminology, BTW)

It's hard for me to say anything is impossible, but I think it's still a bit touchy for us to be jumping into bed with Iran ... I just don't see it happening.  Good article, though.

I think its an interesting thought, but I dont know how willing Iran would be to become our buddies.  I agree....possible but unlikely.  In a way it would be nice to even be on neutral terms with Iran at this point.
