I have an ati radeon x1900xt graphics card, and i have all the settings on high and AA on 6X and i get crappy fps at times.  Average around 40-50.  Sometimes it's so low that game gets choppy.  Any advice on improving the fps in bf2?  Also, i'd figure that the fps would be really good with a good graphics card anyway.

My rig:

Ultra 600 watt xfinity 2g PSU
Asus P5LD2-VM Motherboard
4 sticks 512 mb aeneon ddr2 533 ram (2gb total)
Asus Ati radeon x1900xt
Western Digital 200 gb sata2 hard drive 7200rpm
Pentium 4 dual core 3.4ghz processor
I run an x1900xt too - but on an AMD 4200 X2 CPU with 2Gb RAM.

I get around 80fps @ 1680x1050 resolution but that's with 2x AA. Any higher and the fps suffers. So the first thing to try is to lower your AA level from 6x to 2x. Even though the x1900 is a monster card it isn't immortal ;-)

Another thing you could try is set the affinity of bf2.exe to run on CPU 0 if you aren't doing so already. Setting the game to run on one core fixed a lot of chopiness on my rig.

i'll turn that on and see how things go.  what about vertical sync? do i want that on in the CCC?

also, in the ccc there is an option for "Adaptive Anti-Aliasing".  Do i wan't that enabled? if that is enabled, do i wan't it on Performance or Quality?  Here is the description the ccc gives for that:

"Substantially improves visual image quality by enabling supersampling anti-aliasing on transparent textures, and multi-sampling anti-aliasing on all other textures.  This delivers exceptional levels of image quality, while maintaining very high levels of performance"

How do i set the game to start up with only cpu 0? i know you can do it by right clicking the process while it's running and manually setting it, but how can i make it start up with it?  Also, i have the game running as a high priority application already using a command i found on a guide on bf2s.

May not be the problem but in the past I've discovered that my sound card caused lots of lag/graphical stutters etc.  Make sure those drivers are up to date and if you have it set to high quality set it software & low just to test.

So I got the same card as you and I get about 130 fps average.. I got 2 sticks of 1gb though
And DDR2 ram and a better cpu and a better hd.

40-50 is pretty good, but not considering your rig.
