I saw this movie yesterday.  It's about a group of marines who were sent to take part in Operation Desert Shield, defending Saudi land after the invasion of Iraq to Kuwait.  I strongly recommend you to see this movie, you won't see a lot of shots and bombings.  But, you will see how hard is the life of the soldiers there and how they should have some respect for going there.  I must confess I couldn't do it.  I think it's important not to judge the soldiers for the actions of politicians.  They went there defending their country and that's all that matters.  The real reasons why they were sent doesn't matter.  They went to do a job and they did it.  I posted this because we use to forget what others do for us when they are sent to war, I saw this happen in my country.

The movie is ok, but would have been much better if the army would have supported the movie with vehciles ect.

It was filmed in 2005.  It was directed by Sam Mendes, the guy from American Beauty, and starring the guy of that movie of two gay cowboys, I don't remember the name, Jamie Foxx and Peter Sarsgard.

I liked the film. Nice and interesting alternative war movie.
It also based on the book, the main character wrote after he served in Iraq. That makes the film more interesting.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but by not judging soldiers, I think you're degrading them. Are they not people? Do they not have a mind of their own? Are they not capable of making decisions?

Unless we're dealing with some sort of draft, if the army is not voluntary, like it is in my country, then I see no reason why not to judge them.

They are active citizens of their community and they elect their leaders. And as far as the US goes, being a soldier is a profession. Ignorance does not make you less guilty you know.

Btw jarhead seemed like an empty movie to me. It was done earlier and a hell of a lot better by Cubrick in Full Metal Jacket.

I think is an excellent movie with great performances of Jake Gyllenhaal, Jamie Foxx and Peter Sarsgard.  The sales have nothing to do with the quality of a movie.  If it were for the sales Titanic would be the best movie ever and as a matter of fact it's a big piece of shit.

The movie could've been a bit better, but they did what they could with the budget at hand.

I think soldiers obey orders and they are trained to do so.  That's because you should blame the shitty politicians and not the soldiers.  What would happen to a soldier who refuses to go to war?  If your name is Bush, probably nothing, but for common people it would imply a hard punishment.
I love Full Metal Jacket, in fact I have it in DVD, but we are talking of different wars here.  Jarhead is an excellent movie IMHO.

Ya, it was a nice alternative to other war movies.  Not a single second of actually combat took place.  Tho FMJ will always be better, this one is at least something to remember.  The acting wasn't that bad, either.

Most people who are... let's say.... dumb, probably wouldn't like it because there's no action.

Well, you hit the point.  It's an interesting war movie without a single shot.  And it ain't boring.  It gives you another perspective of war, like FMJ did in its time.  If it's about war movies Black Hawk Down ftw.

Hey,

That guy is an idiot. He published this book after realizing we were going to war in 2003. It is about his "so called" combat experiances in the gulf war in 91. Alot of the movie is BS including the live fire drill which never happens unless say ur Delta. I won't bother with the numorous non factual events in the movie. I will just say as a movie it's entertaining as a real look into the soldiers experiance in theater I would say it's crap. Snipers are renowned for their stability, calmness, mental eveness and professionalism. His version of a sniper is insulting to those who served with honor.

According to the Allied prosecution of Nazi war criminals, that's no excuse.
