I think the no vehicles option is great, you have a level playing field where infantry skill and teamwork prevails. Don't get me wrong I like armor, helos and jets, but armor spawn campers and air whores get old really quick, 90% of the time they are only concerned with their stats and not the team. Just my opinion.
I too wish they would have made the no vehicles option a little more granular. I understand the idea of the IO option is to create a ground pounder type of game play, but come on, these maps are just too large on 32, and especially 64, player configs. At least give the option to keep the basic transport vehicles.
IO sucks. End of story. Ive played it once (without realising at first, but carried on to try it out) on Warlord. The SAS has absolutly no chance on that map, because by the time youve stopped the ticket bleed, you are too far behind to make any kind of attempt at winning.
Its slow paced action consisting of a bunch of medics reviving and snipers claywhoring. Occasional support getting ammo points, but thats that. The other 4 classes are completely redundant, even spec ops is barely worth it with 3 of the 5 assets taken away.
Try Iron Gator....geeez, there would be only ONE way in if you play it IO. That would totally suck....more so than Wake. Try FuShe on 64players.....holy fuck. Well, any Chinese map for that matter.
Some maps, armour "spawncamping" is required to make the game move along. Even with armour camping, karkand is often just a nade fest at the front because nobody knows what the hell to do otherwise. Stats do play a role in it, however, if you are sat killing everyone who spawns...isnt that helping out your team to actually take that flag?
As far as Im concerned, most of the complainers are playing city maps, more specifically, karkand. 24/7 with other maps barely touched. Its only on city maps where you get nade spammers, armour spawnraping, claywhoring, medic whoring and all the other shit. Why dont you try getting some real fucking skill and play, heres a clue, OTHER MAPS?

It's nice to not have to worry about the whores who cruise armor and shoot foot soldiers from behind Plate Steel. i fully agree with your criticism about the no-vehicle option and the stats-system. some maps NEED vehicels (sometimes only jeeps) and the stats-system encourages point-whoring and avoids teamplay!!

I like infantry only. I was expecting there to be no armor or jets but it really is NO VEHICLES. It sucks on a 64 player map but the longer sprint is nice. I was also disappointed in no artillery, that would be so BA for commander, pouring steel rain down on the defenseless infantry.

Each time something goes back to Dice for fixing they just cludge it up, rather than try a better way to do something - they just kill it.
Like squad hopping, they just blanked all interaction while dead so thats a pain in the rear now, even in normal (nonhopping) play- what about trying things like allowing access but have a message reminding that any squad change wont happen till next respawn, or what about just disallowing joining in and out of the same squad but allow joining different - oh no, dont think, just kill it in the dumbest possible way.
Its like some evil boss saying 'change it?! CHANGE IT??!! ok you see, I'll teach them'
As for IO, well I think keep it for now but have a second mode added in the next patch called IT, IO with Transports and let the server admins decide whats more popular.

IO is only good on TIGHT map like Karkand and Sharqi. All others are much too big for no vehicles, even Mashtuur. Jalalabad isn't bad, but it takes a while to get somewhere from the US base.

DICE only 'fixes' things that are easy to 'fix'. And I use the words FIX and DICE in the same sentence
very very very losely, because we all know DICE really fixes nothing. Im really quite surprised with all
the people who cried about jumping and firing (bunny hop..) DICE didnt just release the next patch where

I kinda agree a LITTLE bit with the original poster... I'd rather see a "slider" setting on vehicles. Because the IO mode is ONLY fun on small maps, so for those of us that like the 64 player maps, it's a bit... Limited. I'm not saying 1.4 is ALL bad, but the no vehicles setting kinda sucks for large maps.
Imagine if you will 3-4 options on vehicles. Sorta like: NO vehicles, only small vehicles (transports, maybe including transport helo), large vehicles (APCs, and maybe attack helo), ALL vehicles (tanks, jets EVERYTHING).
I'll admit that doing it that way will need "tweaking", because this will upset the "balance" of certain maps, but IMO the balance with no vehicles is pretty bad for most maps. So maybe HP on vehicles needs tweaking, the amount of vehicles needs tweaking, or something else entirely (speed, respawn time, whatever). I dont know... But as it is, any map (at least the large ones) where one side starts with bleeding and only a limited number of spawns (sharqi, jalalabad, karkand, kubra, wake etc.) there's OVERWHELMING odds against the bleeding side, because they only have one or two flags to get to in a hurry, and those are HEAVILY defended. Going for a rear flag is almost impossible against a dedicated defense squad and an observant commander. It gets even worse on pub servers where theres no coordinated effort to GET a rear flag !

IO only on jalalabad is brutile if there is no uncap rape rule. even so, USMC stand no chance against even a remotely intelligent team. Guard the Outpost and Lake (or junkyard) flags, and its over.

Oh, I love infantry only, but I agree with the author that the "all or none" option is lazy and stupid. There is new strategizing, etc for every scenario you invent so in my opinion more options=better.
