i d/l cpu-z for the first time tonight. i'm kinda noobish when it comes to the real geeky stuff. i have
1.5gb or patriot 2700 333mhz ram in 2x256mb sticks and 1x1gb stick.
my mobo is an msi ms-7047, chipset kt880.
my week cpu is an amd athlon xp 2600+.
question is, cpu-z says im running in single channel with 166mhz frequency rate. I thought i was running dual channel and the ram is 333mhz. i looked in my mobo manual it showed how to configure for dual channel mode. I have 3 Dimm slots (1-3). the manual says that dual channel only works in the dimm 1 and dimm 3 combination. please note that dimm 1 and 2 are spaced together and dimm 3 is set apart. i had both my 256mb sticks in dimms 1 and 2 and my 1gb stick in dimm 3 to begin with. according to the manual this wont get me dual channel mode. so am i basically screwed until i build a better system or is there another way to set it that i dont know about. i tried putting the 1gb stick in the dimm2 slot and the other 256mb in the dimm 3 slot, still running single channel. i guess my next step would be to take out the 1gb stick and see if i get dual channel with the 256's in slots 1 and 3.
i know my rig is outdated and i plan on an upgrade come christmas time. i guess this is an example on how buying 2x256mb sticks is worse off than buying 1x512mb stick.
comments and help appreciated and +1 karma will be left.
